GUI Munster Branch AGM: The meeting was held in Mallow on Tuesday of this week; for a change, and in the interest of real democracy, the four provinces had their AGMs on the same night. With over ninety clubs in Munster this important meeting always draws a big crowd for a full agenda. There were excellent reports from the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Match and Handicapping Secretary, Boys, Youths Sections and Senior Sections. Then came the motions which led to lively discussions. 2009 Fixtures and Sponsors: All fixtures for 2009 are on display in the men’s locker room, and they will be posted on the club website without delay. All of our loyal and generous sponsors have been contacted, and it is heartening to hear from so many that their input will continue for 2009. The business community have been very good to the club over the years and all at Dungarvan Golf Club appreciate their support. It is also nice to hear of some new sponsors ‘coming on board’ with money or prizes. Sponsorship affords business firms the opportunity to advertise, and entertain their customers to golf and a meal; at the same time their generosity makes a big contribution to the club coffers and helps us to balance our books. Tom Mulcahy and Noel Brennan have been spotted colluding in their usual manner, with a view to teasing, irritating and generally amusing you on the night. Taking a break from the Hundred-and-Ten table, and all the post-mortems and bickering at that forum, the two lads promise a good night on Saturday, so let’s see you there. Annual Subscription: A gentle reminder to members is warranted concerning timely payment of their annual subscription. Some members are inclined to put this matter on the long finger, and the management committee would appreciate early settling of accounts. This year, for a change, in an effort to regularise the ‘business end of things’ the committee have said that members who have not paid by December 31st will not be eligible to use the course. Their registration for online booking will be blocked, and entry to competitions will be refused in the Pro-shop. On top of this late payment of subscription will involve an administration fee. Please go the extra mile for your club by paying early. Don’t say you were not reminded!
