Lions Club Weekend The Lions Club Charity weekend, generously sponsored by Ben O’Neill was a great success again this year with both the ladies and the men out in big numbers during the week. Ben said he was glad to sponsor such an important event, with the hope that it would be supported , little did we think that we would have so many visitors to swell the fund. Evan Walsh kicked off the proceedings on Thursday with a very credible 36pts from a steady round. His opening 22 points wasn’t matched by his finish which had one blank & 2 one pointers. A case of what might have been ‘ but we didn’t listen to a shot by shot account – unlike others.
Johnny Norris & Michael O’Mahony, both off 13 were the leading lights on Saturday. There was nothing remarkable about Johnny card, just steady golf for 38 while Michael had 2 birdies on the 2nd & 15th towards his 37. Sunday bought the big gun of Robert Hyde who was best overall with 40pts, with steady golf and two birdies on the 1st & 15th . When captains Ann Stack & Noel Brenan presented Jack Stephnson of Dungarvan Lions Club with the generous cheque on Monday afternoon the recipient was loud in his praise of Dungarvan  Golf Club and sponsor Ben O’Neill ‘for another job well done, buts its no surprise – its what we have to come to expect’

SENIOR ALLIANCE: Alliance members would have been forgiven for not holding much hope for golf on Sunday last, however, that’s Irish weather for you. Not a sign of frost so it was off to the races. Well maybe not the races but the golf course that borders the famous Gowran Park, home to the legendary Thyestes Stake, one of the highlights of the Irish racing calendar.  The alliance had not been to Gowran for a few years and while the word was out that a massive amount of work had been done the proof of the pudding is in the eating. All concerned at Gowran can take a bow. Considering the deluge of Friday last, the course was remarkable dry and eminently playable. A trio of 69’s fought it out for the main prize with home club member Niall Kelly releagatig, John Gough & Darren Cuddity to the minor placings. Gavin McNeills fine 71 gross took 1st gross Alan Hartys 73 getting 2nd gross. Hugh Beehan got the final 18h prize with 71 nett whilw Matt Houlihan won the back 9. Next outing: Castlecomer Sun 28th Dec. A very Happy Christmas to all our members & their families.

Lotto! Winner alright! We had a winner our lotto jackpot of €12,700.  Namely Pat Stack, husband of our Lady Captain Ann, and father to three fine golfers and clubmen Tom, Kevin & Eoin. Pat is a very popular winner. Apart from his support & participation of club competitions and social functions, Pat was a very capable and affable junior officer for many years. A kerryman from Listowel, Pat teaches at the CBS secondary school and  Ann teaches at the Ard Scoil na deise. Kevin & Eoin cureently attend U.C.C &  both  represent the college in golf. Tom previously attended the same college and currently lives in Australia. What a Christmas present, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer family.
