Faithlegg Advance in the Pierce Purcell Shield
The Club was a hive of activity at the weekend when Dungarvan Golf Club played host on Saturday to eight teams namely Tramore, Waterford Castle, Faithlegg, Williamstown, Dungarvan, Gold Coast, Youghal and West Waterford in the East Munster section of the Pierce Purcell Shield. Dungarvan, Youghal, Faithlegg and Tramore won their respective matches to advance to the semi finals stages on Sunday . The Dungarvan team fought gallantly under the leadership of Austin O’ Connor but unfortunately succumbed to a brave Youghal team as John Norris and Shane O’Meara had victory snatched from them down the 19th hole in a nail biting finish. Faithlegg beat Tramore in the other morning semifinal and eventually went on to over-power Youghal in the afternoon game. We wish them well as they now advance to the Munster Final stages.
New Member Bag Tags
We are delighted to announce the launch of our newly designed member bag tags which are available for collection from the office or bar. The Club is very grateful to David Moloney of Moloney’s Hardware for their continuous sponsorship of the club bag tags. Moloneys Hardware & DIY new premises, which services the needs of the local community, is situated at Bridge Street in the heart of Dungarvan town, adjacent to Dungarvan Shopping Centre. They are continuing their long association with the Club and we thank them greatly for their generosity.
Dungarvan Masters
The Dungarvan Masters Tournament is fast approaching taking place from Monday 8th June to Thursday 11th June. It’s a singles event open to ladies and gents played over four days in Dungarvan, West Waterford and Gold Coast with 40 to qualify for the grand final in Mount Juliet on the final day and a chance to don the prestigious Dungarvan Masters Green Jacket. Spaces are still available for visitors, rates as follows: 3B&B, 2 Dinner, 4 Golf and entry €374pps or 4 golf and entry €175pp. There are also a limited number of spaces available for local entrants entry fee €145 with the closing date for entry 28th May. Noel Brennan’s Captains Prize
The 2009 Captain’s prize, the major fixture on the men’s golfing calendar is quickly approaching. This year’s popular and hardworking Captain Noel Brennan, is looking forward to what promises to be an exciting weekends golf. This prestigious event takes place on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June with the online entry timesheets opening soon.
Belvedere Trophy Team Victorious
After getting off to a winning start in the home leg of the Belvedere Trophy the Dungavan team managed by Sean Power played out their second leg against Williamstown in Williamstown Golf Club last Wednesday and went on to claim overall victory. Their next encounter will be against Waterford Golf Club at a date to be decided.
Brennan Cup
Under the leadership of Tom Mulcahy our Brennan Cup team travelled to Kilkenny last week to take on the home side. After a long and hard fought battle we succumbed to a strong Kilkenny team. Thanks to all who travelled and thanks also to Kilkenny, who were generous in their hospitality.
Lady Captain’s Prize
The 2009 lady Captain’s Prize kindly presented by Ann Stack takes place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2009. The format is a 36 hole stroke competition. Saturday’s timesheet is currently available online, enter into the draw by logging onto to the club website www.dungarvangolfclub.com. The draw will take place on Thursday 4th June in the Clubhouse @ 6p.m. Please note the following: Only ladies with full membership for at least six months are eligible. Members must have lodged two 18-hole singles qualifying competition cards prior to the Lady Captains Prize. ‘ILGU Member Cards’ must be used for entry. Juvenile and Country Members are not eligible for entry. Prizes are as follows: Winner, Runner Up, Gross, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Categories A, B & C Best 1st 18, Best 2nd 18, Past Captain, Best Guest and other Special Categories. The presentation of prizes will take place on Sunday 7th June @ 9.30p.m.
The timesheet for Sunday’s final round will be posted at 10.00 p.m on the Saturday night. Qualifiers should check their Sunday tee times by logging onto the club website www.dungarvangolfclub.com.

Ladies, we are promised fine weather this week so those fair weather golfer have no excuse not to dust off the cobwebs from their clubs and come and join us for the Ladies Opens on the Saturday and Monday of the forthcoming bank holiday weekend.
