MENS CLUB CLASSIC
Tom Melody and Michael Kelleher's bright idea of running their sponsored midsummer team-of-four event proved to 'hit the spot', with a big number of teams competing on Friday and Saturday for the beautiful crystal prizes. There were visitors a-plenty, and the support of teams from the other local clubs was remarked on by the organisers.  At the presentation of prizes on Saturday, the Sponsors were described in glowing terms as "two stalwarts who have made a huge contribution to Dungarvan Golf Club over many, many years". The winners were all home players, and Captain Noel couldn't disguise his satisfaction at receiving a prize in this important event.
Also presented on Saturday night were the prizes for the remaining Open Fortnight events. Ex-President and sponsor for many years, Tom Coffey, spoke at length of our outstanding and well-run club, and of the entertainment laid on by members to entertain him and his guests on Fri 10th. GSK were represented by Michael Callaghan, who listened as Captain Noel spoke of the contribution of the manufacturing facility to the local economy for nearly thirty years. Noel spoke of the company's 'commitment to excellence', and the fact that many of their 750 employees are members of Dungarvan Golf Club. In his acceptance speech, Scratch Golfer John Reynolds reflected Noel's words when he spoke of the clubs efforts at running the Open Fortnight so efficiently; John thanked the Captain and Men's Club committee for all their work this year. The remaining presentation was the Golfer of the Fortnight prize, generously sponsored for many years by Noel Devereux. This year's winner was Vice-Captain Des Cleary, with the outstanding score of 156 from four singles competitions. In runner-up spot was busy and affable Hon. Sec. Maurice Cliffe with 152.

DEISE GOLF SPONSORED E.P KIELY TROPHY

Graham Nagle of Deise Golf World kindly sponsored the sought after EP Kiely trophy on Sunday, generously providing an electronic golf trolley worth 300 euro as 1st prize. The lucky winner of this was Juvenile  club member  Michael Maher playing off (15) with an impressive 43 points.  The talented Nagle family also featured in the prizes. Many thanks to Graham for his continued and generous sponsorship.

BELVEDERE TROPHY
Congratulations to our neighbours and rivals West Waterford, who beat us narrowly in the final of the Belvedere at neutral Faithlegg. Seán Power and his team were very disappointed, especially as it looked like we might snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. On the 14th green we were down in four of the five matches, yet we fought back to 2-2, with the final pair level on the 18th tee: the rest is history. A big 'thank you' is due to Seán for all his efforts in both the Belvedere and J B Carr competitions this year. The members who played in the final were Victor Mullins and James Power, Ivor Bagge and Mike Fitzgerald, Pat McGovern and Martin Landers, Colm Bannon and Mike Brosnahan, Jack Collins and Denis O' Brien.
We were also beaten in the Senior Cup, but narrowly - the story of our lives! John Gough and his team travelled to Youghal to take on Faithlegg; once again the last match went down the nineteenth. However, the lads licked their wounds, came home to play in the team event and took third place. Now there's stamina! The senior Cup team on the day were Eoin and Kevin Stack, Donal Williams, Jack Leacy and Alan O' Donnell.

THOSE RULES AGAIN
Players sometimes forget that, while you may repair pitchmarks, you may not repair other damage to the putting green. You may not flatten spike marks; if you do you are subject to penalty. Neither may you repair a damaged hole, until after you have all putted out. If the hole is severely damaged there may be a case for summoning a committee member to have it repaired. Remember also that you must have your handicap on your card, along with your name, your score and two signatures. The committee nowadays require you to total your score, write in your Stableford points when relevant, and put your score into the computer, hole by hole. Our committee no longer put scores in for players: they are too busy. Finally, it is good practice to read the Local Rules on the scorecard, and any notices near the first tee.

CLUB MIXED FOURSOMES
This Friday the 24th sees the annual club mixed foursomes kindly sponsored by our very own popular catering manager Tom Daly. This enjoyable event is always well attended and times are now available online to members, so hurry get your partners !

LADIES NOTES
T.C.WILLIAMS AND JUNIOR CUP MATCHPLAY
The matches are well in their second round in each of these competitions, well done to those who have gone through to the next round.

PAST & PRESENT LADY CAPTAINS
Dungarvan golf club hosted an Open past and present Lady Captains and Presidents Day. There was a huge entry to this poular competition with visitors from a wide area. The glorious sunshine added to the day . The winning pair of Betty McGee and Loretto Morrison from Youghal had a super score of 58 points which included 3 birdies in the back 9. They were presented with The Lady Captains' Perpetual Cup and their prize. Incidentally Betty was also part of the winning team in 2008. Many of the visitors complemented the committee on the excellent condition of the Course and how much they enjoy playing here.

LADIES OPEN COMPETITIONS
We have plenty open competitions left for this month and next.  Our next open singles is Tue28th sponsored by Keighery/Gallagher, and we are much indebted to Kathryn and Peadar for their generous sponsorship.

STUNNING PERFORMANCE
On Tue 14th despite dreadful underfoot conditions, we had another stunning performance from our own Breda Mac with 40pts playing off 4!!   We had many visitors on the day, including inter-provincial players from Killarney G.C. who walked away with the prizes except Breda who came second on a breakdown with a massive 22pts on the back 9. That was some shooting from someone who never had a golf lesson, but who could teach us the simple basics of the game in her own easy style.  Thank you Breda for all the tips you gave to me and many others you took under your wing through the years – it was much appreciated.

JUNIOR NOTES.
The Dungarvan Juniors enjoyed another successful week with a hard fought victory over Lismore in the under 15 South East League. With some outstanding golf, we managed a 4 – 3 win over a gallant Lismore team maintaining our 100% record in the event. Other Juniors to shine was Michael Maher who won the EP Kiely trophy with a super 43pts. Last week we went to Youghal Golf Club for their annual open day and again we acquitted ourselves admirably. Ronan O’Neill scored 47pts, Philip Coffey 42 & Gabriel Leacey 41pts.
