President’s Prize
The time-sheet is filling up quickly for Frank Lloyd’s big weekend, with entry for ladies and gents closing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday 11th. The draw for playing partners will be made that night, and put on the club website on Wednesday morning. Frank tells me that he is going with a Stableford format, from the blue markers for men (using the same tee markers on the 3rd and 11th as were used for this year’s Captain’s Prize).

Popular President Frank gives little away, with skimpy details known of his Tipp and Kilkenny roots. He has been an active member now for a while, a great supporter of club competitions, and seen on the course early each weekend. Frank has a word for everybody, and never rushes his conversations when he relaxes upstairs. We wish him the best for his President’s Prize weekend, which, with the collaboration of the ladies and gents’ committees, is bound to go well from the ‘off’ on Friday to the presentation of prizes on Sunday night at 9.30 p.m. Don’t forget the President's Scramble on Wednesday – an event which always draws a big crowd and is an ideal way to start the weekend.

Calling All Citeógs!
The 34th Annual Left-Handers Competition will be held on Sunday 30th in conjunction with the club 18-hole stroke event. This contest is open to both female and male members of Dungarvan Golf Club, and costs a mere €5 to enter. Players may also play in the club competition on the day. Holder Tony Power has recently taken the sought-after trophy off his mantelpiece, and the usual organizers of the day hope for a big turnout – including left-handers who have joined the club recently.

Captain’s Prize to the Juniors
Noel Brennan was delighted with the huge entry from among our juvenile members on Friday, and especially pleased at the attendance at the prize-giving. Andrew Kirwan won with 47 points, and Noel complimented Club PGA Pro David Hayes, along with JP Hayes, Donal Williams and Michael Leacy on the great work done towards developing the Junior Section. Noel also spoke of the way in which our juveniles lived their golf as the total experience of skills, etiquette, dress, behaviour, relationships, observation of rules and much, much more. He complimented them on all they had done this year in both domestic and away competitions, inter-club events, coaching evenings during the winter, and how well they have featured in this year’s club competitions and voluntary work evenings.

But I Didn’t Know!
Members should keep an eye on the noticeboards in and around the clubhouse, not least to be aware of current Local Rules and ‘Conditions of Competition’. They should also have an occasional look at the club website: if they have no access to a computer at home they may use the one in the clubhouse foyer. This past week the Local Rules changed more than once, to take account of the very wet underfoot conditions. We went from ‘play as it lies’ to ‘preferred lies’ (otherwise known as placing) for a few days, and back again for the weekend competitions. Similarly, some players don’t seem to know that singles competitions must be played in groups of three unless otherwise indicated by the timesheet; and many don’t seem to be aware of the ‘Pace of Play’ guidelines. Finally, winners of competitions for which prizes are displayed should be aware of dates for presentation of prizes.

Senior and Junior Scratch Cup
The rescheduled Senior and Junior Scratch Cups will be played for on Sunday 23rd August.  These prestigious trophies are played over 18 holes, strokeplay off the blue markers.  Member entry is €10, visitors €25.  Timesheets are available online at www.dungarvangolfclub.com.
