David Hayes PGA Professional Day
Club members turned out in force to participate in our resident’s Pro David Hayes’ PGA Professional’s Day on Saturday last.  David sponsored a beautiful selection of prizes for the ladies and gents.  Mossie Walsh was victorious in the gents competition with a 65nett beating Michael Morrissey by a two shot margin. Kevin Stack claimed the gross prize.  Teresa Hayes continued her good form by winning the ladies section with a 72 nett beating Anna Harney by two strokes.  The presentation of prizes will take place on Friday 28th August following the last scramble of the season.

The 34th Annual Left-Handers Competition will be held this Sunday in conjunction with the club 18-hole stroke event. Rules Again
Q1.
Playing off 14 (14.2) Joe had 42 points in the morning in a Qualifying Competition, before playing in the Cunnigar Cup singles matchplay on the same day. He played his match before he knew the CSS from the singles event. Should he play off 14 in his match? Q2. During his match he hit a long drive on the 7th, but pulled it left into the trees; when he looked for the ball there was no sign of it, so he presumed it was gone into the drain – entitling him to drop out sideways under penalty. Is this correct? Q3. When he reached the 11th his ball was in a flooded bunker beside the green. He dropped out without penalty and played on; is this ok? Answers: 1. Joe was obliged to reduce his handicap before the second competition. As he didn’t know the Competition Standard Scratch (CSS) of the day, he had to base the reduction on the Standard Scratch Score (SSS) of the course, which is printed on the scorecard of the course. In addition, if he didn’t know his exact handicap he was obliged to subtract .5 from his playing handicap, thereby cutting his handicap from 13.5. Incidentally, players are not allowed to increase their handicap in a similar way. 2. No. There must be sufficient evidence that the ball had gone into the drain; if there is not sufficient evidence (he must be know or be virtually certain), he must treat his first ball as lost. 3. No; unless the bunker was marked Ground Under Repair (GUR), any drop outside a ‘flooded’ bunker carries a penalty.

To Wexford and Back
Fancy a golf day in Enniscorthy? Lovely course, well kept, a team event with a difference, so Seán Power choose seven of his mates – they had to be over 18 (no problem here) - to contest with him an event in memory of an ESB great in the Wexford area. Rogie, Mossie, Mike Fitz, Colm Bannon, Paddy O’ Brien, JP and Frank Lloyd set off in hope with Seán, to play in four pairs, with the three best fourball scores to count for the team. A great day was planned, including a sumptuous meal, and the lads went off in great form with high hopes. Their main aim, apart from winning, was to be back with time to spare for the President’s Scramble. But nobody told Seán that it was over 18 in handicap! The lads made the most of it; the organizers took pity and let them play anyway, and Seán’s mates smiled and put it down to a ‘senior moment’!
