ASHES V LISMORE
On Saturday we travelled to Lismore for the first leg of the annual Ashes clash, which has been held each year since fire destroyed our club house. In glorious sunshine, we took on the best the home side had to offer.
Best score of the day for Dungarvan came from Mossie Walsh & Roger O’Connor, who shot eight under. Unfortunately for them, they were matched against Lismore’s strongest pairing of Anthony O’Rourke & Eamon Costin, who shot a superb eleven under par.
Our best point scorers were John Gough & Jack Elstead, who won their match four up. They were well supported by Kevin Stack & Gary Burke, three up and by Tony Keaver & Des Cleary, also three up. Also battling hard for Dungarvan were John Reynolds & Liam Fitzgerald, Dermot Walsh & Shane O’Meara, Jack Leacy & Michael Kelly, Gabriel Leacy & P J Kindregan, Seamus O’Neill & Maurice Cliffe, Tadhg Sheehan & Sean Wade, Nicky Norris & Johnny Norris and Frank Lloyd & John Considine.
Lismore carry a lead of ten up for the return leg in Dungarvan next Saturday, which the home team believe can be overcome if we play to our best. In speaking with the selectors, I understand some changes to the team are to be expected.

WINTER LEAGUE
It is that time of the year again, so get your teams ready! The winter league will be run along the same lines as last year, with a few notable changes. Many members cannot commit to play every weekend and are reluctant to join a team. This year only four cards from a team of eight are to count for each round. The playoff weekend will by scored on the best six cards, with the best four combined totals progressing to the match play semi finals. Domestic winter cuts this year will be based on scores, unlike last year when the cuts were based on prize winning.
