BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Our weekend didn’t start well with torrential rain on Friday night rendering the course unplayable for the very early part of Saturday morning. However our greens recovered extremely well due to our excellent drainage and golfers were given the green light to play at 9.30. Competitions were cancelled as a result of the earlier delay however but we were able to welcome many guests & members including the Kate O’Grady golf society from Kilkenny who were very complimentary about our course. Sunday was a fine day and Brian Murphy from Waterford recent winner of the E A Ryan Cup with a remarkable 63, continued in his fine vein by returning a fantastic 66 nett to take 1st in the 18 Gents Open hole stroke. Former Captain Michael Brackett was second with a 68 while our new golfing superstar Kevin Stack son of last years Lady Captain Ann took the gross again with a 77.
WINTER LEAGUE
As mentioned in the notes a couple of weeks ago, the start of the Winter League is imminent. Most teams have now entered and we encourage the remainder to enter this week as the league is expected to commence on Thursday 5th November. Any individual who is not yet part of a team can record his name on the list displayed on the notice board and he will be accommodated. The main change to this year’s league is the qualifying score each week will be from the best FOUR cards, thereby easing the burden on any one individual to be available every weekend. Full rules are displayed on the notice board.
Last year's teams were: Ballinroad; Ballygambon Lower; Father Twomey's; Fews; Kilmeaden; Kilmurray; Knocknagranagh; Landsend; Master McGrath; Parklane; Pinewood/Southways; Silversprings; The Old Burgery; The Real Burgery and The Square. Good luck to all entrants.
