DEISE GOLF WORLD WINTER LEAGUE HOTS UP
Finally the thaw has started to arrive (bar Sunday) and our keen winter leaguers have been going out there and giving it everything they’ve got in order to get their team in the top spot.  Last years winners Father Twomey’s and the Old Burgery are leading the pack at the moment with only a point between them. Not far behind are the Parklane Lads, with the Highlanders and Fews also still in the running if some decent scores are returned over the next few weeks.  The Fr. Twomey team includes this years Captain Des Cleary, former Captain Donie Williams & former Chairman Nicky Norris along with his brother Johnny. The strong assets in the form of Martin & Anthony Lynch, Tom Ward & Matt Noonan complete the formula for potential success this year. The lads can’t rest on their laurels however as hot on their heels are the Old Burgery team. With brothers & great golfers Dermot & Justin Walsh & John & David Regan joined by Liam Hansbury, Michael Brown & Darren Hamilton, here is another strong team who mean business. It remains to be seen who is going to emerge as victorious this year. Due to last Sundays frost and the competition being abandoned for an 11 hole, scores carry forward to next week.  Many thanks to our generous sponsor Graham Nagle of Deise Golf World who’s support is invaluable.

A WEEKEND FOR THE WALSHES!
It seems it was all in the name on Friday and Saturday’s competitions as the Walsh’s were ruling the day!  Fridays 16 hole stableford saw Dubliner George Walsh playing off (18) return a 33. George, who now lives in Ring , keeps us all entertained in the clubhouse with his Dublin wit and ever ready smile.
Saturday had Portlaw man Gerry Walsh return a fantastic 39 points. Gerry, playing off (18) had 7 pars and birdies on the 12th & 13th .Old Burgery member Justin Walsh took 2nd for his team with 37pts. Sundays frost must have broken the Walsh spell with popular sponsor Jim Quinn of the Moorings & Agri Business taking 1st place. Jim scored a very respectable 27 points in the 11 hole stableford, which replaced the 16 hole due to the course closure from the frost. Jim had a birdie on the 16th & 4 pars. Mens Handicap secretary John Considine came 2nd with a great score of 26 making his Lady Captain wife Ina very proud on Valentines day!
