GREAT SCORE FOR DANNY BARRY
Despite the course being subjected to the whims of Jack Frost again at the weekend , Thursday and Fridays 16 hole competitions went ahead with Danny Barry playing off 13 returning a fantastic 39 points on Thursday. Danny had 8 pars and a birdie on the 4th and I expect won a few bob from his regular playing partners Eddie Elstead, Jimmy O’Donnell & Pat Breen that day. He wasn’t alone in the high scores on Thurday as Diarmuid O’Neill (12) also had a 39 with a very impressive 12 par round. New member Ger Kavanagh took the 3rd spot with 36 points.  Friday saw our popular ‘handyman’ Denis O’Brien take 1st with 37 points. The weekends play was again reduced to 11 holes thwarting attempts for the winter league lads to get their teeth stuck into the next round.  It didn’t deter Mark Reynolds (7) taking a 1st with 26 pts on Saturday or Michael O’Brien  (14) having a great 9 pars and return  28pts on Sunday. The winter league will continue again this week when we will hope for an improvement on the weather.

LADIES HOME ALLIANCE
Our popular Lady Vice Captain Mary Phelan is hosting her home Alliance final on Saturday 13th of March from 12 Noon. The timesheets are now open and this year members are asked to book online and the draw will be taken from the names on the online timesheet. Mary & her committee will do the draw on Wednesday the 10th of March so those wishing to play please ensure that your name is down before this time, Mary, who originally hails from Gliddane, has been playing golf for 13 years now and is playing off 20. She is enjoying her role as Vice Captain of the Club and as Captain of the Home Alliance. She wishes all the teams & players the best of luck for the final.

Low handicappers & pros Kilkenny outing Sunday 14th February cancelled due to frost. Next outing is to Rosslare Saturday 27th February from 11.00am

JUNIOR NOTES
The school Midterm saw a busy schedule for our junior golfers with plenty of coaching and competition. Jack and Gabriel Leacy traveled to Carton House for tuition under the Irish national panel and both did very well in representing Dungarvan Golf Club and enhanced their chances of an Irish cap. Our elite squads continued their progress with a very productive session last Wednesday. Our pre-juniors were in action on Thursday. Friday saw the running of the Baker Tilly trophy and our pre-juniors held their first competition.
 
BAKER TILLY TROPHY
Michael Maher put up a fantastic defense of his title against strong opposition. Brian Looby and Dion Ryan had posted 6 up with Michael 6up playing the last. After a slightly wayward third he played a delightful chip which he holed for a winning birdie and 7up. Michael thanked the organisers, his playing partners and the sponsor Pat Norris Jr. Pat was a long time member of Dungarvan Golf Club and having played Junior golf for Munster, is a regular and keen supporter of Junior Golf in Dungarvan.
 
PRE JUNIORS
Our Pre-juniors set out on Friday morning for their first ever competition in the company of our older junior members. The competition was over 7 holes and Marc Boland took the honours with 20 pts. Second was Chandler O' Rourke with 15 pts and Third was Tom Looby with 14 pts. Next competition will be held at Easter.
 
COACHING
Tuition for our elite squads continues on Monday evening at Tinhalla Driving Range and at Dungarvan Golf Club on Wednesdays at 5pm.
Tuition for our Pre-juniors and Beginners will recommence on Saturday 6th March at 3pm.

YOUNGONES WEEKLY NEWS
Wednesday 17th Feb was a day of celebration for the Youngones, as it was our 5th Birthday. After our regular 9 holes of golf we gathered in the Clubhouse for the festivities. When the prize giving and announcements were over we had our lucky dip, which brought laughter and giggles from everyone, all were delighted with their presents and it proved to be a great idea on the day – thank you Nuala!!
The Birthday Cake which was a stunning chocolate creation kindly made for the occasion by Maria went down very well despite the fact that it was Ash Wednesday.  There were no refusals for the cake which was laced with alcohol and topped with whipped cream.  Thank you again Maria for all your help and the fabulous cake.
On behalf of the Youngones, I wish a speedy recovery to Creina who had a misfortunate accident last week, and will not be playing golf for the time being. We are looking forward to having you with us for the cuppa very soon!!
