A DAY FOR THE EARLY BIRDS
Just by the skin of our teeth did the winter league go ahead this weekend, with the course closed due to frost until 10a.m on Saturday. The faithful ones who hung round the clubhouse were rewarded when the go ahead was given. The later start obviously suited Mossie Walsh, our regular early bird player, who returned a fantastic 40 points, including 6 birdies and 6 pars. Mossie, playing off (9), won on the countback from Country member Joe Brown from Tipperary who had 11 pars. Fantastic scoring from both players. The ever consistent Kevin Stack impressed us all again with his fine scoring including an eagle on the 12th to take the gross with 34 points. Another perennial early bird, our Vice Captain Rogie O’Connor (Mossie’ s playing partner) came in 3rd with 37pts. Maybe its time to start playing later guys with results like that!
SCOTTISH VICTORY
Our Scottish members were on form in Sunday’s competition, taking 1st and 2nd between them. Playing partners Gordon Willins and Norman Hall both scored 36 points, with Gordon pipping Norman to the post on the back 8.

JOHN CASEY RIP
Dungarvan Golf Club was well represented at the obsequies of John Casey of Main St. at the weekend, and we offer our sympathy to his golfing son Maurice and his three sisters. John was a keen and talented golfer and a very popular member for decades, frequently seen practising or chatting with members as he caught up with events at the club. John’s wry humour, along with his encouragement to newcomers and juveniles, ensured that being in his company was always a pleasure. Ill for several years, we missed John around the place. His generous sponsorship of the annual John Casey Shield competition for Juveniles, with a fine trophy proudly displayed in the clubhouse, along with his general contribution to the club, ensured that John will be remembered. Ar Dheis Dé go Raibh Sé.
DRIVE SLOWLY, PLAY QUICKLY.
Whereas we encourage playing Golf quickly and without undue delay, we do not encourage driving quickly – your car that is! There is a 20km speed limit on the entrance roadway, and we ask that members and visitors alike adhere to same. There have been a number of “close calls” recently, so please slow down.
FANTASTIC GREEN FEE OFFER
The recently introduced Members Special Green Fee Offer is proving to be a big success. Members can purchase a book of ten Green Fee vouchers for just €100. The vouchers are valid for play with a member Monday to Friday, and represent great value for money. So if you want an economical way to entertain friends, family or business colleagues, why not invest in a book of Green Fee vouchers.

JUNIOR NOTES
BAUMANN MASTERS : Our scratch matchplay tournament reached an exciting climax recently when the final took place between two outstanding junior golfers. Kindly sponsored again by club stalwart Mr. Des Baumann, Colm O’Hare and Colm Kindregan put their friendship aside and took to the battlefield. This match was going to be close and O’Hare had a 1 up advantage after 12 holes. However young Kindregan put the foot down and birdies on 13 & 15 gave him a one up advantage. O’Hare then birdied 18 but to no avail as Kindregan matched the birdie. Well played to both these fine young golfers.
