HOLE IN ONE
It is a well known saying about buses ' you wait for ages for one and then two come along together'. That is what happened on Thursday when John Regan followed Mark Reynolds with a hole in one. John got his on the 5th hole when his choice of club proved to be spot on. A perfectly struck four iron flew straight and true, to the delight of John and his playing partners. There was even greater joy in the clubhouse later as John insisted in buying drinks for all present. Here's to your next one John!
DEISE GOLF WORLD WINTER LEAGUE
The Winter League qualifying stage came to a conclusion this weekend. Despite the difficulties caused by the weather over the past three months, the league was completed as scheduled. Well done to the following teams who qualified for next weeks play offs: Highlanders (1,114), Parklane (1,113), Old Burgery (1,109), Fews (1,105), Ballinroad (1,096), Kilmurray (1,087), Fr.Twomeys (1,082), Silversprings (1,073). Qualifying in the plate section are: Real Burgery (1,055), The Square (1,046), Southside (1,040) and Newline (1,025). As next Sunday's time sheet is very busy, St Patrick's Day has been included as a qualifying date for the play offs. As the start of the winter league seems so long ago it is worth reminding ourselves that the play off results will be determined by the best six scores from each team. The top four teams (from the top eight) will advance to the matchplay semi finals while the remaining four will be competing with the four plate teams for a place in the plate matchplay semi finals. All semi finalists will be known after next weekend and it is hoped the matches will be played as early as possible.
SOUTH EAST LEAGUE
The first round of the South East League was hosted by our near neighbours the Gold Coast on Sunday. Well done to the Purcell and Bruen squads under the leadership of Roger O'Connor and John Gough and their respective management teams. A well fought match against Mitchelstown resulted in a score of 3 wins & 3 losses. Next week our other local neighbours West Waterford host the event, with Dungarvan taking on the Gold Coast.
JUNIOR ALLIANCE
Popular longstanding club man Nicholas Norris hosts his Captain's Prize to the South East Junior Alliance this coming Sunday. We hope for a great day and wish all our visitors an enjoyable day at Dungarvan Golf Club. Nicky continues to be an excellent supporter of both our own golf club and the junior alliance and we wish him well for his big day. The Captains Dinner will be at 5.30pm.
CLUB FIXTURES
Members should be aware that paper fixtures booklets or lists are no longer being produced. Both the Gents and Ladies fixtures for 2010 are posted on the Club Website, and can be found on the right hand side of the Home Page. These will be updated regularly as alterations/additions are made.
JUNIOR NOTES
Tuition on Monday evenings at Tinhalla Driving Range has now ended, but continues at Dungarvan Golf Club for the elite squad on Wednesdays at 4.30pm, and for our Pre-Juniors and Beginners on Saturdays at 3pm. Our Club PGA Professional David Hayes, the County Coach for Waterford, would encourage all Juniors and Pre-Juniors to avail of these coaching sessions.
