It was a great week for Dungarvan Golf Club last week with big playing numbers on St Patrick’s Day and the weekend, including a large society outing on Saturday and the South East Junior Alliance Captain’s Prize on Sunday. All visitors were exceptionally complimentary about the course & catering. The South East League teams gave a fine display at West Waterford, with Dungarvan beating neighbours Gold Coast 5-1 to lead their section of the South East League. The next round will be played at Dungarvan on Saturday next 27 March, with the tee reserved from 10.30am.

Popular clubman and former Chairman Nicky Norris hosted his South East Junior Alliance Captain’s Prize on Sunday. 65 golfers played on the day, which was in glorious and long awaited sunshine. A great meal was provided in the clubhouse afterwards by Tom Daly and his staff and our thanks are expressed to him. I’m sure Nicky was delighted to present the 1^st prize to his brother Johnny who emerged the clear victor with an impressive 42 points.  The results as follows: 1^st J. The Winter League playoff had a big turnout with some exceptional scoring. The Semi final matches to be played by Sunday 4th April are as follows:

Fews V Kilmurray & Fr Twomeys V Ballinroad.

Plate semi finals: Silversprings V Parklane & Newline V Highlanders 

The pairings are pre set in order of handicap with the lowest handicapped player from each team in match one, the next lowest in match two etc.

The final of each section is set for Saturday 10th April in the afternoon with the presentation of prizes by Graham Nagle of Deise Golf World that evening.

Members should be aware that paper fixtures booklets or lists are no longer being produced. Both the Gents and Ladies fixtures for 2010 are posted on the Club Website, and can be found on the right hand side of the Home Page. These will be updated regularly as alterations/additions are made.

FRED DALY TROPHY: Our juniors are in action next Saturday 27^th in the 1^st round of the Fred Daly Trophy. We face Tramore in Tramore in what should prove to be a tight contest. The first match tees off at 2pm and members/parents are encouraged to attend and lend your support. The panel is Jack Leacey, Colm Kindregan, Colm O’Hare, Gabriel Leacey, Philip Coffey, Michael Maher, Kevin Walsh, Jack Mullaney, Stephen O’Connor and Dion Ryan. The match consists of 7 singles games played off scratch.

TUITION: Pre Junior and beginner coaching resumes on Saturday 3^rd April at 3pm and Wednesday 24^th March for our elite squads at 4.30 pm

THREE CLUBS PROMOTION
The three golf clubs, together with Clonea Strand Hotel, Lawlors Hotel, The Park Hotel and the Gold Coast, have launched and interesting free raffle for people who email into the Dungarvan Golf website.
