Another Great Weekend The sun shone on a dry sod, so we had big numbers on the course throughout the weekend. We had two great ‘start of season’ stroke events in the Monthly Medal (Bank of Ireland) and the Ballinacourty Cup. Fergal O’ Dowd (20) won on Saturday with a marvellous 67 after an opening birdie, to be outdone on Sunday by Paddy Cunningham (21) who scored an outstanding 64. The Easter Weekend sees Open Competitions throughout; I also see that Tom Daly will be providing tasty meals each day – including Good Friday. With the Dungarvan Traders due home from their South East Tour, and our own Dungarvan Ladies bus-load also expected back – sometime – we expect another busy weekend. South-East League So far, so good, with Dungarvan on top of their section after playing at home on Saturday. Our team was Tony Brady/Jim Harty, Nicky Norris/Brian Morrissey, Ronan Slevin/Martin Lynch, Mike O’ Brien/Jack Elstead, Johnny Norris/Kevin Regan and Darren O Droma/Larry Fahey. We now have 22 pts, with Mitchelstown on 21, West Waterford on 17 and Gold Coast 12. We play against West Waterford again in Mitchelstown on April 12th, but we need Gold Coast to put out a strong team to beat the hosts on the day. Dungarvan Juniors Defeat Tramore. On Saturday last our juniors headed for Tramore for the first round of the Fred Daly Trophy. This event is singles matchplay with 7 matches. We fielded a strong team with Jack Leacy leading off. Jack played some wonderful golf and was three under when the match finished. Colm Kindregan played next and showed off his powerful ball striking, winning on 16. Colm O'Hare and Michael Maher were behind early but again showed their class with Colm winning on 17 and Michael winning on 15.Gabriel Leacy continued to show his potential with a victory on 14 and Kevin Walsh powered to victory, also on 14. Philip Coffey was duly called in while winning his match. It proved to be a comfortable victory and it was very encouraging for our juniors to see some support from our senior members. We await the winners of Faithlegge and Lismore. With both the Munster and National Finals of the Fred Daly to be played at Dungarvan Golf Club this year, wouldn’t it be nice!
