SENIOR PAIRS
This week Dungarvan once again welcomes visiting golfers for the Annual 3 courses Senior Pairs tournament. With a different format on each course over the week, and open to Ladies, Men or Mixed Teams, this event proves ever popular with the over 55’s. Members should note the timesheets are reserved for this event on both Tuesday & Wednesday for a large portion of each day.
DEISE GOLF WORLD WINTER LEAGUE
The Winter League sees Fews V Ballinroad in the Final proper. The plate semi’s between Silversprings & Parklane & Newline v Highlanders had not been decided at the time of going to press. The final of each section is set for Saturday 10th April in the afternoon with the presentation of prizes by Graham Nagle of Deise Golf World that evening.
NEW GUI SMART CARDS
The GUI has now issued new Smart Cards for every male golfer who is a member of an affiliated golf club. The existing membership number remains the same. These new cards are available in the bar, and must be collected prior to 31st May, after which all prior issue cards will become obsolete and will cease to operate the Handicapping Software System. The new cards must be registered on the GOLFnet system. Go to www.golfnet.ie, enter your membership number and password, and follow the on-screen instructions. Cards registered prior to 31st May will gain automatic entry to a free draw.
CUP CARE!
It is noticeable that some damage is being caused to the hole edges on our greens. Players are requested not to use their putter heads to scoop the ball from the hole – if you really can’t bend down to pick out your ball, suction pads for the end of the putter grip are available in the Pro Shop. Secondly, we would request that players ensure the flag stick is replaced properly in the cup to avoid it leaning against the hole side, particularly in windy weather.
FINANCIAL PLANNING
In the current economic climate, people are acutely aware of costs and planning ahead for them. If members have any concerns or requirements in this regard relating to golf, they can contact the Office to discuss further.
CLUB FIXTURES
Both the Gents and Ladies fixtures for 2010 are posted on the Club Website, and can be found on the right hand side of the Home Page. These will be updated regularly as alterations/additions are made.
AMENDED LOCAL RULE
With effect from 1st April, members should note a change to the local rules, whereby free relief from the hedge surrounding the practice green will no longer be available. The local rules posted in the Clubhouse and on the scorecard reflect this change from 1st April.
SYMPATHY
The Club wishes to extend sincerest sympathy to Betty O’Brien on the untimely death of her brother Liam Cashman, and to Jack & Eddie Elstead on the passing of their mother Peg. May they rest in peace.
JUNIOR NOTES
Last Wednesday our Juniors headed for the Gold Coast Golf Club for the qualifying round of the Irish Junior Foursomes. Our team of Colm O’Hare, Gabriel Leacy, Colm Kindregan & Kevin Walsh acquitted themselves admirably in very difficult conditions. With only 2 teams to qualify, we were lying second, but a scorecard error relegated us to third place by half a shot. It proved a costly lesson but the quality of the golf played showed that we are a match for anyone. Well done to all concerned and a special thanks to our caddies.
PRE JUNIOR COMPETITION: Last Wednesday our pre juniors took to the course for our Easter Tournament. David Looby pipped younger brother Tom for the first prize. Meldon O’Dwyer took third with John Treen in fourth place. Our next tournament for pre juniors and juniors is on Friday 9th April at 10am.
TUITION: Pre Junior and beginner coaching continues on Saturday at 3pm and for our elite squads on Wednesday at 4.30 pm.
