DEISE GOLF WORLD WINTER LEAGUE PRESENTATION
This will take place on Friday 30th April at 9pm. All prize winners are requested to attend and support our generous sponsor Graham Nagle of Deise Golf World.
MATCHPLAY
Club Matchplay Competitions 2010 will commence shortly. Entries for the Scotch Foursomes, Cunnigar Cup Singles, Scratch Matchplay Singles and the O’Connell Cup Fourball are now sought. Entry forms can be found in the Men’s Locker Rooms along with details/conditions of each competition. Closing date for entries is 2nd May.
SINGLES: Lower player plays off scratch and opponent plays off full difference between the two handicaps.
FOURBALL: Choose a partner. Lowest plays of scratch, each of the others play off ¾ of the difference between him and the scratch player. All four play each hole, with the better score of each partner counting.
SCOTCH FOURSOMES: 3/8 of the full difference between the aggregate handicaps (on the day) of each side. Half strokes or over are rounded up and less than half strokes are rounded down. All players drive at each hole. Each pair then selects one ball (picking up the other) and play alternate shots to finish the hole.
DEISE WINTER OPEN FINALS
The Finals for those who qualified from the various Clubs each week over the Winter are being held at Dungarvan Golf Club on Friday next 23rd April. The tee is reserved from 1pm to 2.30pm. Players can put their names on the timesheet in that slot, or can play earlier that day if they wish, but not later. The Presentation of prizes will take place in the Clubhouse at 7pm.
CLUB CLASSIC
Our Open “Club Classic” will be held from Friday 30th April to Sunday 2nd May. The format is a team of 4, any combination, with prizes for men’s, ladies and mixed teams. It will be 2 scores to count on holes 1 to 12, 3 scores on 13 to 15, and all 4 on 16 to 18. We would ask all members to make a special effort to support this important Club fund raising event. It is a great opportunity to invite friends, family or business associates to Dungarvan for a game of golf and show them what a great facility we have here.

YOUNG ONES
Captains Day: Wed the 14th of April was the biggest event in our calendar year – the Youngones’ Captains Day. The weather was sunny, if a bit chilly, but this did not deter the many members who turned up for the occasion. After our 9 holes of golf, we proceeded to the Clubhouse for the presentation of prizes and a wonderful meal cooked by Tom and Chris and served by Rita and Brendan. Thanks to all the catering staff who made our day very special. The presentation of prizes took place after the meal, and as everybody received a prize it was great fun to see who got what. The winner with a fantastic score of 20pts was our very own Lady vice Captain, Mary Phelan. 2nd Mary Fleming 18pts. 3rd Breda O’Sullivan 18pts. 4th our only man, Martin Landers, 17pts. 5th Marianne Mulcahy 17pts.
Looking forward to seeing you all again this Wed 21st for our usual 9 holes, draw for partners 2.15pm.
JUNIOR NOTES
Leacy helps Ireland: Last week an under 16 Irish Boys team went to Amsterdam to play a quadrangular tournament featuring Scotland, Wales and the Netherlands. Our own Jack Leacy, representing Ireland for the first time, contributed 4 wins out of 6 to help Ireland win the tournament. This is surely the first of many caps for this young golfer. Unfortunately even Jack can’t beat volcanic ash, and at time of print he remains in Holland for a little unscheduled holiday. Well done Jack.
Dungarvan pip Faithlegg in extraordinary fashion: Our Fred Daly team were in action last weekend in the second round against Faithlegg and with our number one player Jack Leacy stuck in Holland, Jack Mullaney stepped into the breach. He did not disappoint, producing splendid golf to win on the thirteenth. Colm Kindregan continued to show his supreme ball striking abilities and won on 16. Philip Coffey quickly followed, playing his best golf and won on 13. With three wins on the board, one more was required for victory and it arrived in unfortunate circumstances with a Faithlegg player being disqualified for using a distance measuring device, which are not allowed in GUI competitions. Faithlegg accepted the situation with tremendous grace and sportsmanship and warmly congratulated us on our victory. It was a sad end to a terrific match with both sides serving up some fantastic golf in front of an enthusiastic audience. Our team of Colm Kindregan, Colm O'Hare, Gabriel Leacy, Philip Coffey, Michael Maher, Jack Mullaney and Kevin Walsh acquitted themselves admirably and represented our club with distinction. A special thanks to our caddies, Dion Ryan, Eoin Bergin, Ross Dunford, Steven O'Connor, David Sweeney, Ronan O'Neill and Sean Reynolds. We now await the winners of West Waterford and Waterford Castle.
Tuition: Coaching for our pre Juniors and beginners continues on Saturday 24th at3pm and our elite squad continue on Friday evening at 6.30pm.
