CLUB CLASSIC – THE KINGS OF KERRY!
It was a victory for four visiting Kerrymen for our club classic over the weekend. Johnny Curran (Ring of Kerry), Tony O’Halloran, Danny Leen and Michael Leahy (all from Tralee Golf Club)  returned a fantastic 110 points to take the first prize. It must have been the bracing Co. Waterford sea air for their golfing weekend away that did it. Closer to home the Whelan family gathered forces to take second. Paudie, husband and wife Jerry & Cathie along with Derek Power returned 109 points, narrowly missing the main prize to the Kerry fellas. Thank you to all members and visitors who supported the classic, which is a major fundraiser for the club. Also many thanks to the bar and kitchen staff who worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure our golfers were fed and watered.

DEISE WINTER OPEN FINALS
Were held at Dungarvan Golf Club on Friday  23rd April. The winner, with a great score of 41pts, was Greg Keogh from Faithlegg. The presentation in the club house was well represented by dignitaries from many of the participating clubs including Faithlegg, The Gold Coast, West Waterford , Tramore and Carrick on Suir. Well done to all who took part.

NEW GUI SMART CARDS
The GUI has now issued new Smart Cards for every male golfer who is a member of an affiliated golf club. The existing membership number remains the same. These new cards are available in the bar, and must be collected prior to 31st May, after which all prior issue cards will become obsolete and will cease to operate the Handicapping Software System. The new cards must be registered on the GOLFnet system. Go to www.golfnet.ie, enter your membership number and password, and follow the on-screen instructions. Cards registered prior to 31st May will gain automatic entry to a free draw.

VOLUNTARY WORK
Will be starting again this Tuesday (4th May) at 7.30 and continuing every Tuesday. We would love to see all those who helped last year and some new faces who would be able to do a few small jobs around the course and clubhouse. We made a huge difference to the place last year for both members and visitors. So be one of those members who says ‘I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something’.

MONDAY GENTS OPEN SENIORS 55+
A new addition to the Club's calendar this Summer is an Open Gents "Seniors" singles competition every available Monday, starting on Monday 10th May. The minimum age for entry to this competition is 55 years, and prizes will be awarded over 3 handicap categories... up to 12, 13 to 18, and over 18. The entry fee will be a very reasonable €5 for members and €10 for visitors. So those of you over 55 and at a loose end on Mondays will in future have an outlet, and as its an "open" competition, feel free to phone a friend.

FRIDAY SCRAMBLES
The very sociable invitation Friday evening scrambles recommenced last Friday at 6.30pm with popular Vice Captains Rogie O’Connor & Mary Phelan playing host to this very enjoyable 9 hole fun fixture. Juniors joined adults which increased the fun for everyone and around 40 played, making the most of the most welcome stretch in the evenings.  It is an “invitation” event, so members are encouraged to bring along a guest, and new members are especially welcome, as it is a great way to get to meet other members in a very informal atmosphere. We’ll see you there!
