GAA CLASSIC
This week sees the annual Waterford GAA classic being hosted at Dungarvan Golf Club on Thursday 13th, Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of May. Entry cost is only €160 for a team of four and timesheets are filling up fast for this classic fundraising event. Timesheets are available by telephoning the club on (058) 41605 or Pro Shop (058) 44707. Club member Colm Bannon is also helping to organise teams, so hurry and get your name down to support this worthy cause.

WELL DONE LADS!
Sean Power’s team won the first leg of the Belvedere Trophy (3-2) in Waterford last Thursday.  There is a return match in Dungarvan this Monday 10th at 4.15. So watch this space! Good luck to team members Ivor Bagge, Jim Prendergast, Colm Bannon, Mick Brosnan, Martin Landers, Pat McGovern, Tony Dalton, Jim Quinn, Denis O’Brien & Dermot McGrath, who we hope will give a repeat performance of their success last week. 

PURCELL TEAM
Rogie O’Connor’s Purcell team unfortunately lost to their hosts Carrick-on-Suir last Saturday in a hard fought match. It is always difficult to play the “local” club in these fixtures, when local knowledge and course familiarity play a big part in the outcome of the matches. Rogie and Mossie would like to thank those took part in the trials and matches. 

BARTON SHIELD
The Barton Shield will be held in Cahir Golf Club next Saturday. All and any support is welcome and good luck to the panel representing the club. Team Manager John Reynolds is hopeful with the team of Kevin Stack, Donie Williams, Alan O’Donnell, Dermot Walsh and Jack Leacey.

IRISH JUNIOR CUP
We are playing our friendly local rivals West Waterford at Youghal Golf Club next Thurs at 4.30 Members are asked to come and support this event. All are welcome. 

COURSE
Placing will go this week, as will the “plugged ball” rule. Hopefully the weather will remain kind enough to play “summer rules” for the rest of the year.

NEW GUI SMART CARDS
The GUI has now issued new Smart Cards for every male golfer who is a member of an affiliated golf club. The existing membership number remains the same. These new cards are available in the bar, and must be collected prior to 31st May, after which all prior issue cards will become obsolete and will cease to operate the Handicapping Software System. The new cards must be registered on the GOLFnet system. Go to www.golfnet.ie, enter your membership number and password, and follow the on-screen instructions. Cards registered prior to 31st May will gain automatic entry to a free draw.

VOLUNTARY WORK
We were delighted to see so many people turn up for the voluntary work which started again last Tuesday at 7.30 and continues every Tuesday for the summer months. We made a huge difference to the place last year for both members and visitors. We would love to see more volunteers this Tuesday. Its only one hour of your week for the great reward of seeing your club looking its best, so come on down to your club to make a difference.
