CAPTAIN’S PRIZE & SCRAMBLE
Mr. Des Cleary, our affable Captain, will be hosting the Golf Club’s highlight of the year on this coming weekend of Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May. The timesheets are open online and will close at 7pm Tues. 25th May, at which time the draw will be made, and no further additions or alterations will be accepted. The Captain’s Scramble takes place on Wednesday evening with a shot gun start at 7pm sharp. Players are asked to be at the Club between 6.30 & 6.45. The list for entry to the Captain’s Scramble is posted in the Clubhouse. There is also a 9H competition for the Ladies, after the men’s timesheet, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (no re-entry). Time sheets for these 3 evenings are also posted in the Clubhouse. Des looks forward to welcoming members both old and new to his weekend and the Club wishes him the very best in the preparations for his big event.
VICE CAPTAIN’S PRIZE
What a glorious weekend of great golfing weather we had. The sun was high. Temperatures were high. Some say Rogie was high! The course was in great condition, reflected in some good scoring off the Blue Markers. Young Gary Burke, playing off 9, took the honours with a great 67, winning on the back 9 from Freddie McGuckian. Donal Williams, showing a bit of a return to form, took the gross with a 74. Vice Captain Rogie put up a great selection of prizes, with the first prize getting particularly favourable comment. Let’s hope for more of this good weather for Des’s Captain’s Prize next weekend.
JB CARR TROPHY
Our team competed last Monday at Dungarvan, and despite a valiant effort by the lads, they were unfortunately beaten by Faithlegg.
SEVENTH HOLE
Areas of disturbed ground caused by new drainage work on the 7th hole are to be treated as ‘ground under repair’ as per notices posted in the Clubhouse and on the 7th Tee Boxes.
NEW GUI SMART CARDS
The GUI has issued new Smart Cards for every male golfer who is a member of an affiliated golf club. The existing membership number remains the same. These new cards are available in the bar, and must be collected prior to 31st May, after which all prior issue cards will become obsolete and will cease to operate the Handicapping Software System. The new cards must be registered on the GOLFnet system. Go to www.golfnet.ie, enter your membership number and password, and follow the on-screen instructions.
VOLUNTARY WORK
We are hoping to see a few more people turn up for the voluntary work which continues every Tuesday evening at 7.30 for the summer months. Its only one hour of your week and we would accomplish so much more if we had a bit more help. So why not come out to your Club and contribute just a little. You might even enjoy it.
MONDAY GENTS OPEN SENIORS 55+
A new addition to the Club's calendar this Summer is an Open Gents "Seniors" singles competition every available Monday. The minimum age for entry to this competition is 55 years, and prizes will be awarded over 3 handicap categories... up to 12, 13 to 18, and over 18. The entry fee will be a very reasonable €5 for members and €10 for visitors. So those of you over 55 and at a loose end on Mondays will in future have an outlet, and as it’s an open competition, feel free to phone a friend.

JUNIOR NOTES
Jack Leacy to Represent Ireland: Following his success with the Irish under 16's in Holland recently, Jack has been selected as part of an Irish five man team to play in the English under 18 stroke play in July. Jack continues to be a fine representative of Dungarvan Golf Club and we wish him well.
The Padraig Harrington Junior Open: Following the success of our Junior Programs at Dungarvan Golf Club, 3 time Major winner Padraig Harrington will promote an open junior event at Dungarvan Golf Club. Padraig, who is an avid supporter of Junior Golf, wants to create Ireland's biggest Open Junior event and sees Dungarvan as the ideal venue to host such an event. In association with Harrington Golf and Wilson Sports, the event is 18 holes Scotch Foursomes off scratch. Entries are limited to 125 pairs with the event taking place on Friday 25th June. Padraig is conducting a press release this week to promote the event.
Tuition: Coaching for our beginners and pre juniors continues every Saturday from 3 to 6pm under the watchful eye of Head Professional and County Coach David Hayes. Due to the large numbers, Juniors have been alloted times to ensure safety and quality of tuition.
