Lady Captain’s Weekend - 19th & 20th June.
This weekend sees the highlight of the ladies golfing year with the Lady Captains Prize, kindly presented by Ina H Considne, taking place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th June. Ina has been a member of Dungarvan Golf Club for well over 10 years now and has served on committee for most of those. Though she was born and lived in Cork for a number of years, Ina is very much a Waterford person now- always in the Blue & White for all the matches, even when they play Cork!!
We would all like to wish Ina and her Family the very Best of Luck for next weekend, and we look forward to good weather, good golf and a great weekend.
SYMPATHY All the members in Dungarvan Golf Club wish to extend their sympathies to the family of Moyra Baumann on her sad passing. Moyra was past Lady Captain of Dungarvan Golf Club and was loved over decades by many at the Club. Moyra came among us from Carrick-on-Suir when she was appointed to a teaching post in the locality. She quickly settled in and made many friends, before marrying and raising her family at Kilrush, Dungarvan. She loved her golf, both playing and socially, always being the life and soul of the party. She had a fantastic spirit, as shown during her illness over the last few years. She was an inspiration to us all and will be very sadly missed. We also extend our sympathies to the family of Alice Hogan, past Lady Captain of Dungarvan Golf Club, in 1973. The course was closed for a while on Monday 14th of June as a mark of respect for both former lady Captains. Ar Dheis Dé Go Raibh Sí.
Bruen Shield: John Goughs team played in the Gold Coast at the weekend and won their game Saturday where they beat Dunmore 3 -2. They went on the beat Tramore on Sunday morning 3 – 2 with two of the matches going to the 19th . Martin Lynch and Philip Coffey winning with a par and our Captain Des Cleary and Gary Burke winning with a birdie. But unfortunately the hardworking team were beaten Sunday evening 3 -2 to Waterford Castle.
HOLE IN ONE – Congratulations to Alan O’Donnell who scored a hole in one last Thursday whilst playing in the Ulster Bank Open Singles. Alan playing off (4 ) managed this great accomplishment on the 13th. Great shooting Alan and well done on your win at the weekend.

LADIES OPENS AT DUNGARVAN GOLF CLUB We will be hosting a good few opens for the ladies in the near future starting on Fri 2nd July where we have Joe Murphys Open 3 Person Scramble. While Saturday the 3rd of July sees an open Ladies 18 hole Stableford sponsored by Morrisseys. Mon 5th July hosts the fun filled Mixed Foursomes, which is always a full timesheet and we have to thank East Cork Oil for their continued support . Tuesday 6th July 3 has our ever popular Person Champagne Scramble with the fantastic Boutique Rich Rags continuing their valued sponsorship, so nows the time to phone a friend and get booking. Our next meeting will be our annual outing to Youghal on Wednesday 30th June, Ladies 3ball Rumble - tee booked from 3-4pm, there is a list in the locker room for those wishing to play. This is always a very enjoyable event, and I would like to see as many as possible joining us for another fun day out!!

Junior Golf Notes: Padraig Harrington Junior Open: Entries are now been taken for the Padraig Harrington Open Junior Scotch Foursomes Tournament taking place at Dungarvan Golf Club on Friday 25th June. It promises to be an exciting event with both gross and nett prizes. As the tournament is being run in conjunction with the Munster Branch, we will endevour to facilitate local players and clubs. So get your entries in now.
JUNIOR COMPETITONS Last Friday saw the first of our summer junior competitions. We had a clear cut winner with Daniel Gannon following up his win in the Gold Coast by shooting 43 points. Second was Gabriel Leacy with 39 and Gabriel also took the putting honors. Our next competition is Friday 18th at 10 o'clock. All our junior tournaments are open events so feel free to bring a friend.
Tuition: Coaching with Head Professional and County Coach, David Hayes for our Pre Juniors and beginners will continue on Saturday 26th June from 3pm. Due to the large numbers each junior has been allocated a time and already some juniors are showing potential.

Munster U 15 Team: Best of luck to Gabriel Leacy and Jack Mullaney who are representing Dungarvan in the Munster Under 15 trials at Cahir Park during the week.
