DUNGARVAN MASTERS

This Wednesday (23rd) sees Dungarvan Golf Club play host to the Dungarvan Masters competition. This singles competition is played over the three local courses on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with 40 lucky players to qualify for a final at Mount Juliet on the Thursday. Those who do not qualify for the Mount Juliet final can avail of a further singles competition in West Waterford on Thursday. We extend a ‘cead mile failte’ to all the golfers who are taking part in the tournament, and extend our thanks to our main sponsors of the event, Saltan Properties (Michael Ryan) and Jack French. Members are advised that the course will be unavailable until 4pm on Wednesday.

MUNSTER SENIORS

Last Wednesday’s Munster Open Seniors was very well attended and it was great to see so many visitors from far and wide fill the course and the car park! The Mallow lads were out in force on the day. As always they are great supporters of our club, although they were disappointed not to see their own Irene (on maternity leave) in the office this year! Mallow man Jack Corbett managed to take the top prize with 41 points while his fellow clubmen Eamonn Kelleher and Michael Murphy also entered the winners enclosure with a 3rd and 1st (Cat 16- 20) respectively. Our vice Captain Roger O’Connor continued his rich vein of form this week by taking 2nd with 40pts, following his win in Mondays Open Seniors. Many thanks to all our visitors. It was great to see so many ‘old’ faces again!

HOLE-IN-ONE

Congratulations to Ned Connors who had a hole in one last Thursday whilst playing in the Ulster Bank Open Singles. Ned playing off (18) managed his great accomplishment on the 13th. According to the Pro, there’s no truth in the rumour that he used a driver! Ned also went on to win the competition with a fantastic 43 points. Well done Ned - keep up the great form.

BELVEDERE TROPHY

Sean Power’s Team were beaten 3 – 2 in their 1st leg of the Belvedere trophy when they faced Lismore at Lismore last Monday. However, this Monday sees the 2nd leg played in Dungarvan. Sean is confident that home club advantage will see us turn this match around. Watch this space.

SYMPATHY

All in the Club would like to extend their condolences to Lady Captain, Ina H. Considine on the passing of her brother-in-law last week.
