OPEN FORTNIGHT
Open fortnight is well and truly underway now and the fantastic weather has ensured that the competitions have been well supported. Joe Murphy's popular 3 person scramble was won by brothers Eoin and Kevin Stack with their friend Gabriel Leacy with an incredible fifty seven and five eights. Great scoring from the young fellas, showing us all how its done! Veteran Sean Power, a great club supporter, entered the winner's enclosure in Saturday's open singles with a sizzling 43 points. Sean just pipped visitor Noel Morrissey to the post on the back 9, while member Fergal O’Dowd from Kilworth in Co. Cork, also had a 43 and was 3rd following a countback. Great scoring from all the players. Sunday's 2 person scramble sponsored by Connolly's Pharmacy was won by members Tom Curran and Dermot McGrath with sixty four and a third. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES THIS FRIDAY
The lucky prize winners of this week's competitions will be presented with their prizes from our generous sponsors this Friday the 9th of July in the clubhouse at 9.30p.m. All prizewinners are requested to attend to support our sponsors. Why not make an evening of it and enjoy a meal in the clubhouse before hand? We look forward to welcoming everyone particularly the visitors who have featured in the competitions. The presentation for the competitions being held next week will be held the following Friday 16th of July.

JUNIOR CUP WIN
The proverbial “blend of youth and experience” proved to be a fruitful truism for the Dungarvan Junior Cup team at the weekend in Waterford Castle. Sean Wade’s panel of Gary Burke, Kevin Cusack, Paddy Kennedy, Gabriel Leacy, Michael Leacy, Michael Maher, Brian Morrissey and Eoin Stack played outstanding golf to come through the East Munster area qualifiers. On Saturday morning they overcame a strong Faithlegg team on a score of 3-2, only to face the home club Waterford Castle on Sunday morning. It was a tight and tense affair, and with Dungarvan having 2 matches “in the bag”, young Gabriel Leacy sealed the victory with a great win on the 20th. On, then, to Sunday afternoon’s final against near neighbours and good friends Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club. It was another tight affair, but with wins from Paddy Kennedy (1 up), Gabriel Leacy (5&3), and Eoin Stack (3&2), Dungarvan prevailed. Congratulations to everyone involved.

VOLUNTEER WORKERS – A BIG THANK YOU
Voluntary work continues every Tuesday and our happy band of helpers have again been making a huge impact on both the course and around the clubhouse. The new raised bed by the front of the clubhouse is starting to take shape and will be a welcome new addition. The voluntary team are also battling against the weeds and repairing divots which is a great boost to tidying up the place for open fortnight. Thank you to all of those who are helping to keep the club in such great shape. If you would like to join the volunteers for an hour just turn up on a Tuesday evening at 7.30 p.m , the more the merrier as they say.

YOUNGONES
On Wednesday June 30th, 12 of our group headed for Youghal Golf Club for our annual outing. Despite the threatening dark clouds on our approach to Youghal, we were amazed to find the sun trying to break through on the course. Needless to say we all got in safe and dry, but very tired after our 18 hole rumble which was enjoyed by all. The meal was superb, and I would like to thank the catering staff for looking after us so well. While our scores did not reflect the scores of the day, we had our own presentation of prizes, kindly presented by our Lady Captain Ina. Our resident photographer Kolette took a group photo of us which is a lovely memento of the day – thanks Kolette.

JUNIOR GOLF NOTES
Coaching: Tuition for our Pre Juniors and beginners continues this Saturday 10th July from 3pm to 6pm under the watchful eye of Club Professional David Hayes.

Competition: Our next tournament is scheduled for Wednesday 21st July from 10am. Pre Juniors and beginners will play from 11am to 12.30.Times may be booked on club website.

Junior Cup: Well done to all concerned in Dungarvan's great win in the East Munster section of the Irish Junior Cup. Two of our junior members, Gabriel Leacy and Michael Maher played prominent roles and we wish the team continued sucess.

Munster Under 15 Championship: Dungarvan had two representatives in the championship at Thurles recently and both acquitted themselves admirably. Jack Mullanney returned 69 and Gabriel Leacy had 73. We hope for bigger things from both theses fine golfers.
