OPEN FORTNIGHT CONCLUDES
There were a good few brave souls who ventured out in the rain last week in the name of golf to make their claim to the beautiful array of prizes laid on by our sponsors for the final week of our Open Fortnight. The rain certainly didn’t hamper the efforts of Stradbally man Conor O’Brien playing off his recently reduced handicap of 10 who returned a 71 in Sunday's Festival Trophy. Conor was fresh from his win in Thursday's Irish Turfcare sponsored competition, where he had 10 pars and finished his round in style with two birdies on the 17th and 18th, scoring a fantastic 42 points. The ever consistent Kevin Stack also featured again this week taking the gross in Tom Coffey’s Friday open. Kevin had an almost level par round with only a bogey on the 8th preventing this. After 6 birdies, he also managed an eagle on the 18th in Monday's competition. A real star in the ascendancy in our Club. Mossie Walsh (10) left everyone trailing in his wake in Wednesday's Open singles when he managed 46 points, 6 points above the 2nd place score. Terrific scoring by anyone’s standards. I’m sure the day's sponsor, Club member David Kiely, was delighted to give his 1st prize to such a worthy winner. Many visitors also featured during the last week, including visitors from Carrickfergus, Lismore, Faithlegg, Waterford Castle, Tipperary, Youghal and Clonmel, all claiming prizes. Many thanks to all our sponsors, members and visitors both old and new who made Open Fortnight possible.

GOLFER OF OPEN FORTNIGHT
The "Golfer of the Open Fortnight", kindly sponsored by Noel Devereaux Menswear was won by Dermot McGrath playing off (17). Dermot, from Dungarvan, only joined the Club two years ago and is already making headlines, having returned the best 6 cards from 10 singles competitions over the Open Fortnight. Well done Dermot and keep up the good work.

CLUB MIXED FOURSOMES.
Our popular and talented caterer Tom Daly will be sponsoring the Club Mixed Foursomes this Friday and it is hoped to have a good attendance from members to support this fun event. Tom and his son Chris have been providing the Club with fine food for almost three years now, and we are delighted at his continued support, both as a sponsor and a caterer to the Club.

GREENS MAP
Open Fortnight saw the introduction of our newly designed score cards which include a new feature. The card now shows a small map of each green and the general location of each pin, shown as front, middle or back. The ‘A’ course was in use for the Festival Trophy, which brought a successful Open Fortnight to a close on Sunday. Any member who would like a larger copy of the greens map can obtain one by contacting the office.

JUNIOR CUP SUCCESS
Sean Wade’s Junior Cup Team made further inroads in its quest for a pennant for Dungarvan Golf Club on Thursday last in Carrick-on-Suir when they took on Thurles in the East Munster Area Final. It was feared that the team might be somewhat weakened by the absence, due to holidays, of some members who took part in the successful qualifying matches at Waterford Castle, but the strength of the panel as a whole was in evidence as they outplayed a strong Thurles team to run out winners by a margin of 3 ½ to 1 ½. Wins by Eoin Stack, Gabriel Leacy and Brian Morrissey sealed an impressive victory, and the team is now looking forward to a Munster semi-final against Nenagh, which will take place at Castletroy Golf Club on the weekend of 14th / 15th August.

JUNIOR GOLF NOTES
LEACY RESPECTABLE IN KENT: Jack Leacy returned from Kent having competed in the English Under 16 Strokeplay championship. In atrocious weather, Jack played well to make the 36 hole cut before finishing in a creditable 26th from 145 entries. Jack is away again this week playing for Munster in the Junior Interprovincial at Ballinrobe. Best of luck Jack.

BAUMANN SCRATCH MATCHPLAY: Club stalwart, Des Baumann, presented his prizes last Friday evening to a packed house. Des was highly complimentary about Junior Golf at Dungarvan and was suitably impressed with the quality of golf played in the final between Colm O'Hare and Colm Kindregan. The final was level through 9 holes and O'Hare proceeded to play the back 9 in 2 under par. However it wasn't quite good enough, as Kindregan played it in 3 under to win on 18. A tremendous match played in great spirit. Well done to all concerned.

UPCOMING EVENTS:Our next junior competition takes place on Wednesday 21st July. Our juniors take to the course from 10am, followed by our Pre-juniors and beginners from 11am. All are welcome, as our events are open, and times may be booked on the club website.
The draws for our matchplay events will take place this week and Des Baumann has kindly agreed to sponsor the Scratch Matchplay again.

Tuition:Coaching for our Pre-juniors and beginners continues next Saturday from 3pm under the watchful eye of Club Professional and County Coach David Hayes. Please contact David on 44707 if you have any queries.

Dungarvan win Junior Cup:
Congratulations to Gabriel Leacy on his starring role on Dungarvan's Junior Cup team. He has now played 4 matches and can't stop winning! His latest success came in tie holes last week in Carrick against a highly fancied Thurles team.
