PETER FINNEGAN WINS PRESIDENTS PRIZE
What a weekend! The sun shone for our Tipperary born president Frank Lloyd for both the weekend and the results of the hurling match! There was a great turn out of players for the Friday and Saturday with superb scores coming in keeping the pressure and standard up for the weekend. Mossie Walsh playing off (9) managed to return a massive 43 points on Saturday, taking him to the top of the leader board. However, this is a round of two halves on a presidents weekend and consistency is the name of the game. Mossie lost his game on Sunday and in the background Julian Moroney and Peter Finnegan were tipping away. Julian had a 36 on Saturday and Peter a 39. Julian went on to have a fantastic 42 on Sunday, but it was Peters steady hand that gave him a 40 taking him into 1st place. The presentation of prizes took place in the clubhouse and our president thanked the hardworking committee who had been flat out over the weekend. He also thanked the course staff for the tremendous condition of the greens which was met with a loud round of applause. Frank also thanked the office staff Liam & Ria, Tom, Chris,Brendan and Rita the catering staff, Michael, Lauren and Sean bar staff and David and Grace in the pro shop for all their support over the weekend. Prizes were handed out to all the winners and finally Peter Finnegan had his turn in the spotlight. Peter said that he had two dreams in his golfing life and that was to win a presidents prize and get down to single figures. Both things he had managed to accomplish this weekend. He thanked our president for a great weekend. Peter said that he had been a member for 11 years and said that the course condition just keeps getting better over time. A great conclusion for our well loved president.
JUNIOR CUP
Our Junior cup team got to the Munster final this weekend having beaten Neenagh that morning 3 -2 (Sat) but were unlucky to be beaten only on the 18th in the final in the afternoon. The team was managed by Sean Wade and his assistant JP Hayes. The panel consisted of Paddy Kennedy, Gabriel Leacey, Eoin Stack, Brian Morrissey, Michael McGrath, Mick Leacey, Gary Burke and Michael Maher. The lads put up a great show and were a credit both in their playing and behavior. Young Gabriel Lacey played 6 matches over the whole series and managed to win every game. Sean Wade is to be commended for his selection of fine players and details on the day. You did us proud lads.
