LADY CAPTAIN’S PRIZE
With the Lady Captain's week-end imminent it is time to focus on the charming, talented and unassuming Lady Captain-Maeve Morrissey. All we know about Maeve pre-1970 is that she is a native of Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo and that she worked in AIB Finance in Dublin. THEN in 1970 Maeve met Pat in Wanderers Rugby Club. Maeve and Pat married in 1973. They bought a house-which came with resident greyhound-and a Veterinary Practice in Kilmacthomas. During her happy years in Kilmac Maeve featured in the very successful "Batchelors-in-Trouble" with her dog Bouncer.

Maeve and Pat had 8 children-4 boys and 4 girls. This busy household obviously developed Maeve's multi-tasking skills. Maeve started playing golf along with her good friends Peg Phelan, Mary Ann Coffey, Eileen Sheahan, and the late Ena Kiely. She had her first lesson on grip and stance in the ballroom of the Tower Hotel Waterford. There are rumours that clubs were manoeuvred into car- boots as discreetly as possible and it was essential to return home at a reasonable hour . The Kilmac ladies came to play their first competition in Ballinacourty in Sept 1989. They were introduced to the members as Peg-mother of 13; Maeve-mother of 8; Ena-mother of 8 and Mary Anne-mother of 7. The other historic event of their first night in competition was the burning of the club-house.

The Morrissey family moved to Dungarvan in 1994 and they bought the Lady Belle-a very successful business managed by Maeve. In her spare time Maeve plays Bridge and is a former President of the Abbey Bridge Club. She plays golf off a handicap of 17 and featured in the prizes on Tues. May 29th. Maeve was Treasurer of the ladies club in 2002. She is also a keen gardener and a constant companion to her lovely granddaughter Sophie.

We wish Maeve. Pat and their family a successful and enjoyable week-end.
The Lady Captain’s Prize, kindly presented by Maeve Morrissey, will be played on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June 2012. All eligible members are invited to participate. Entries will close at 5p.m. Thursday 7th June and the draw will be announced at 8p.m. all are welcome.

OPEN SINGLES THURSDAY- WON BY A MILO!
Milo Guiry must have been on top form on Thursday as he tipped the last ball into the 18th. Entering the clubhouse with a score of 40 points would have made his day. Sean Power must have also felt he was in with a chance also returning a 40 but luck was on Milo’s side on the countback leaving Sean in 2nd place. It was also great to see young Daniel Gannon featuring in third place. Dan is now playing off (15), another player with a big smile on his face that day!

BANK HOLIDAY WINNERS
We had great weather for the Friday and Saturday until 5p.m and then boy did the heavens open! The golfer who timed his game right for the weather and winning scores was Barry Hamilton who waltzed away with 1st prize on the Friday with a fantastic 40 points. Barry, who plays off 5, has been steadily maintaining his game and quietly gathering the prizes for the past few months. Definitely one to watch. Colin Widger from Kill who joined the club 2 years ago reduced his handicap on Saturday by coming in with a fantastic 41 points. A score he must be delighted with. The golf bug will have well and truly bitten now! It was great to have so many visitors around the place, particularly former member and son of Teresa & Yami Keane, Gavin. who took 5th place on Saturday. A list of all winners are in the results section.
