OPEN FORTNIGHT
A brave band of golfers have kept the golfing flag flying this week with their valiant efforts to support the clubs open fortnight. We thank our loyal members and welcome the visitors who are continuing to turn up despite the at times inclement weather.
Last Mon 2nd our hardworking caterer Tom Daly kindly sponsored an 18h Mixed Fourball. Teresa & Billy Queally topped the pole that day with 46 points while another husband and wife duo Teresa & Vincent Hayes came 2nd with 46 points. It’s nice to know that Vincent needs the help of Teresa to get himself in the winners enclosure these days.
Wed. 4th saw a Gents Singles generously sponsored by The Cliff House Hotel, Ardmore. Hard fought battles on the course that day culminated in young Colm O’Hare playing off (4) stealing the show with an incredible 42 points, way ahead of the posse. Who will you be taking to the overnight stay for two in the Cliff House Hotel Colm? Another young player - Andrew Kirwan playing off (13) took 2nd place with 38 points. Its great to see so much support from the younger players who are reaping the rewards.
Thu. 5th hosted the Arachas Insurance open singles with new father Dermot McGrath (12) back on top form taking 1st prize with 41 points. The lack of sleep is obviously not affecting his game! Colm O’Hare’s purple patch continued today with another great score of 40 to take 2nd place.
Friday the 6th’s 3 Person Rumble had very wet conditions which put many off. Sponsors Finches were delighted however to award the top prize to the hardy team of Derry Cotter, Martin Landers and guest Aidan Walsh from West Waterford with a combined score of 81 to take top place.
Saturday saw the day brighten and playing conditions improve. This led to fantastic scoring on the day for the open gents singles stableford. Visitor Sean Mc Dermott (23) Hollywood lakes took the spoils with 43pts on a very pleasant day for golf. In second spot was another visitor Dermot Wall (11) from Cahir Park with 40pts. Scratch handicapper Robbie Farrell from New Ross took the gross prize with 38pts.
On Sunday the Club hosted a popular open fourball. The scoring was high and new members to the Club Thomas Whelan (16) and Kevin Kelly (20) topped the field with 46pts. In the close battle for second place the combination of Paul Touhy (12) and Jason Slattery (11) saw off Steven Flannery (10) and Adrian O’Donovan (11). John Reynolds (Scr) and Colm O’Hare (4) came in 4th with 44pts.
The last week of Open Fortnight continues this week and we thank all the sponsors and players for their support. A full list of fixtures is available below and on our club website www.dungarvangolfclub.com
