Club Matchplay Competitions 2009

Entries for the Scotch Foursomes, Cunnigar Cup Singles Matchplay,
the O’ Connell Cup Fourball and Scratch Matchplay are now sought. You are invited to enter all events. Watch out for notices, entry forms and details/conditions of each competition.

Singles: Lower player plays off scratch and opponent plays off full difference between their two handicaps.

Fourball: Choose a partner. Lowest plays off scratch; each of the others play off ¾ of the difference between him and the ‘scratch’player. All four play each hole, with the better score of each partner counting on each hole.

Scotch Foursomes: ⅜ of the full difference between the aggregate handicaps (on the day) of each side. Half strokes or over are rounded up; less than half should be rounded down. All players drive at each hole, each pair then selects one ball (picking up the other) and partners play alternate shots to finish the hole.

Conditions of Matchplay Competitions

1. Entry forms (available in Pro shop and in Gents’ Locker Room) with entry fee should be put in ‘Score Cards’ box in locker room, using the envelopes provided beside the box.

Entry fee: Cunnigar Cup Singles Matchplay: €10, O’ Connell Cup Fourball: €20 per pair, Scotch foursomes: €20 per pair. Scratch Competition: €10

2. It is essential that a contact phone number, for the purpose of arranging matches, be included with your entry. These numbers will be put on the draw sheet.

3. Closing Dates for Entry to All Matchplay Competitions:  May 31st

4. A schedule giving dates by which matches must be played will be displayed in the Gents’ Locker Room. The player whose name is on top on the draw sheet should make early contact with opponent to arrange the match.

If a match is not played on time, both participants are removed from the competition. In this regard, if your efforts to arrange a match are frustrated, make your case to the matchplay sub-committee at least a week before the closing date.

5. Matches still tied after 18 holes must go down the ‘19th’ and continue until there is a result; this result should be recorded immediately on the draw sheet.

6. Handicap Allowance:

Scotch Foursomes: 3/8 of the full difference between the aggregate handicaps (on the day) of each side. Half strokes or over should be rounded up; less than half should be rounded down.

Club Singles: Lower handicap player plays off scratch, with opponent allowed the full difference between their handicaps on the day.

O’ Connell Cup Fourball: The player with the lowest handicap plays off scratch, and concedes strokes based on ¾ of the difference between him and each of the others.

7. Decisions of the Organising Committee are final.
