DEISE OPEN WEEK QUALIFIERS.
Last week saw the return of the hugely successful Deise Open with Dungarvan’s turn to host the event. The qualifiers took the form of Vincent Hayes, Peter Finnegan and popular Vice Captain Rogie O’Connor. Rogie’s regular playing partner Mossie Walsh also returned a score as did former Captain Donie Williams, both of who qualified on the back 8. All five will now go forward to compete in the final in April (the date and venue are yet to be confirmed) Many thanks to all those who took part. Next week sees Faithlegg Golf Club play host to the event.
VINCENT HAYES ON SPARKLING FORM.
Popular Mens Club treasurer Vincent Hayes must have been affected by the mild winter weather on Saturday as he played with a spring in his step returning a fantastic 40 points leaving the rest of the competitors in his wake. Vincent had birdies on the 9th & 14th and pars on the 1st, 2nd , 4th ,5th , 8th ,10th , 11th ,15th & 16th . Fine golf indeed Vincent, you will have to let us in on your secret. T.C Curran also had a golden moment on the 4th with an eagle. There must have been some magic in the air that day for the Kilmurray winter league team members!
PETER FINNEGAN GETS TOP SPOT.
Abbeyside man Peter Finnegan playing off (11) returned a 38 on Sunday securing the top spot. Peter had a great start to his round with a birdie on the 1st followed by 8 pars and another birdie on the 15th to ensure his place in the winners enclosure. Former Captain Donie Williams was in 2nd place with 37. The winter league continues this week with the competition warming up with the better weather.
