The JB Carr team journey for 2019 came up just short in Tralee last Wednesday. The home team managed the windy conditions very well and were 4-1 winners on the day which gave them a 6-4 aggregate victory.

We got off to a great start in Tralee with Mossie Walsh and Pat Power again overpowering Mike Sheehy and Ger Power (4&3). We struggled to build on that momentum. Overall it has been a very positive campaign. 48 clubs teed it up in JB Carr 2019 and we made it to the last 4. That’s it until 2020. Another year older and wiser. Well done to all the team and their manager Jimmy Wemyss.

We were all glued to our televisions over the weekend and witnessed an Irish winner of the Open Championship, being played on Irish soil for the first time since De Valera was in his first year as Taoiseach. Congratulations to Shane Lowry on what was a magnificent win!

It has been exceptionally busy in the club this month. We had no 60.com competition on Wednesday 17th July due to the South Munster Seniors having the course booked for the day. As it turned out the day was wet so the amount of golf played was limited.

There will be no 60.com competition on 24th July due to the Lady Captains Scramble taking place that day. We would encourage you all to take part. On Wednesday 31st July we will have our second 60.com outing to Callan Golf Club. Booking sheet will be available in the locker rooms. We have booked for 24 so it first come first served.

Come along any Wednesday for our fun event (when we are playing) and join us for social golf, coffee and chat.

Shane Lowry “shot the lights out” on Sunday to make every Irish golfer and supporter proud of him and his sport. No one watched the lotto draw as they were glued to the TV enjoying his walk to glory.

The numbers drawn in our weekly Lotto on 21st July were 1, 2, 7 and 17. There was no winner of the Jackpot which increases to €4,900 next week.  We had  two Match 3 winners this week  – Esme Dowdall and Billy Queally – they each win €50 – congratulations to both of them.

The projects funded by the Lotto are making great progress. Hopefully the drainage will be completed during early next week and we can all get back to 18 hole golf. Again, thanks to all of you for the support and understanding you are showing for the disruption caused by the projects. You support for the Lotto has made these possible. Your continued support will enable further improvements.

The draw next week will take place on Sunday afternoon about 4:30pm. Come along and support us – all are welcome.
