Dungarvan Golf Club News

This week’s activities focus on our much loved President John Moran who presents his prize to the members next weekend. First up is our President’s Scramble on Wednesday evening which will attract a huge crowed as always. Please note the Scramble timesheet closes at 4pm on Wednesday and late entries will join a waiting list. Entry Fee: Adults €10 and Juniors € includes prizes and plated meal at the bar.

The proper action commences on Friday at 11am and we remind members that the course is closed prior to allow our greenkeepers to prepare and setup the course. We are looking forward to a great weekend of golf befitting our President and we wish every competitor the very best of luck.

Our Mixed Foursomes team were in action last Saturday at Castletroy in the Munster semi-final but unfortunately, we came up short against a strong Fota team who went on to become Munster champions. Managed by Joanne Fitzgerald, our team of Alan Thomas, Miriam Matthews, John Reynolds, Rachel Kiely, Eoin Brackett, Mary Power, Damien Burns, Lorraine Troy, Donal Williams, Linda Buckley, Kevin Walsh & Majella Moynihan did brilliantly to reach this stage and can be justifiably proud of their efforts. Well done to all concerned.

Our attention now switches to the Barton Shield and Fred Daly as we have two more Munster finals beckoning.  Our Fred Daly team managed by Gerry Raher face Muskerry at Clonmel on Monday 19th August. We face a difficult task to retain our title won so brilliantly last year but hopefully our team of Daniel Raher, Michael Troy, Ethan Raher, Sean O’Sullivan and Barry Morrissey are up to the task.

The following Saturday 24th August our Barton Shield team led by Mick Leacy and David Raher are in action at Tramore facing Tralee. The team of Alan Thomas, Danny Raher, Gavin Smyth, Peter Mullaney, John Reynolds and Jake O’Riordan will do their utmost to bring home another Munster title. Support at each venue will be greatly appreciated.

The Summer season remains very busy at the club with visitors highly complimentary of our facility. Staff are welcoming, food is great and the ProShop is an Alladin’s cave are some of the recent comments. This week we welcome the Victor O’Connor group from Youghal, the ILGU for our Girls 4 Golf 4 Life festival, and the Comeragh Golf Society.

We had a full house of entries with juniors from Mitclestown, West Waterford and Gold Coast enjoying our fine facilities. Adam Twomey from the Gold Coast took the honours in the 9 holes. This week’s competition takes place on Wednesday starting at 9.29. A big crowd is expected so book your tee-time early to avoid disappointment. Book online or phone the ProShop at 058-44707.

We had a large number of ladies in the clubhouse on Sunday (11th Aug) taking part in a special competition for former Lady Captains and Presidents – from clubs across the country. There were also many members watching Kerry beating Tyrone. In addition, a large group of happy Get Into Golf players were gathering for a well-organised mixed scramble.
