Dungarvan Golf Club News

We were all shocked and very saddened to hear of the passing of our esteemed member, David Walsh, after a short illness. David was Honorary Secretary of Dungarvan Golf Club in 2006/2007. He indicated a number of months ago that he was willing to take up the position of Captain for the coming year but unfortunately, he did not get the opportunity due to his sudden illness. He will always be remembered for stepping up and offering to serve the Club in this very important role.

Our deepest sympathies go to David’s wife Ursula, his children Lizzie, Billy, Clare, John, Hilary, Rachel and Kevin and to all his family. May He Rest in Peace.

Earlier in the year, Dungarvan Golf Club, was delighted to hear the news that the Club was in line to receive a Sports Capital Grant of €78,900 for course machinery replacement. This was subject to submitting three quotations for each piece of equipment and receiving approval from the Sports Capital Grant to go ahead with the purchases.

On Thursday, our new greens mower machine arrived at the Club to be welcomed by Course Staff, Sports Grant Committee and Course Committee. We look forward to purchasing the remainder of the equipment over the next month.

The Dungarvan Golf Club 44th Annual Lefthanders Competition will be played over the weekend Thursday 17th. to Sunday 20th. October 2019. This is an 18 hole single Stableford. Open to ladies & Gentlemen (members only). Hears hoping all our lefthand golfers will participate.

We had two outings in our club on Sunday 6th Oct as we did our draw. The numbers drawn were 6, 11, 14 and 22. There was no winner of the Jackpot which increases to €6,000 next week. There was one winner of the Match 3s – William Fitzpatrick who wins €300 – this amount had accumulated as the match 3s were not won in the previous two weeks.

We were delighted that William won the match 3s as he came to our club as a member of the Aer Lingus Ground Staff outing. He was a good friend of a former member of the club, Martin Curran, who passed away earlier this year.  Martin initially brought the Aer Lingus outing to Dungarvan and the guys continue to come to our club to honour Martin’s memory.

The draw next week will take place on Sunday afternoon about 4:30pm. Come along and support us – all are welcome.

We had a nice turnout for our first Poker Classic of the season. The winner was Kathleen Whelan and second was Pat Phelan. Our next Poker Classic is on Sunday 1st November.

Our Progressive 45 were back in action on Thursday night:

1st Michael Kelleher & Pat Phelan, Tom Daly & Pat Power, Pete Crotty & Sam McConnell

2nd Tom Daly & Pat Power

Lucky Table Vincent & Theresa Hayes

We are delighted to welcome back Bridge here in the Club House on Friday morning 18th October.
