It was a hectic Halloween for our Junior Golfers as we brought the curtain down on our season.  Despite the poor weather, our Juniors hit the course on Friday to compete in the Juvenile Cup, kindly sponsored by Mr. Alan Ryan from Deise College. It was a family affair for the winners as Maisie Breen took the honours in the 18 Holes, followed by her little brother Harry winning the 9 Holes. Caroline Ryan presented the prizes to our jubilant winners and we sincerely thank Caroline and Alan for their generous sponsorship.

On Sunday, we hosted the Captains prize kindly sponsored by David Shanley. Again, conditions were poor but our Juniors are made of tough stuff and returned some great scores. Diarmuid Mackle took the honours in the 18 Holes with James Lynch proving successful in the 9 Holes. It was great to see a packed clubhouse for our End of Season presentations with Juniors, parents, grandparents and sponsors all in attendance.

Our Golfer of the Year awards went to Rody Morrissey, James Lynch and Sarah Moynihan, all of whom played great golf during the season. As always, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our sponsors, namely Pierce Moloney from the All Rounder, Maurice Troy from Bob Troy & Co, John Lynch Fruit Trader, Alan and Caroline Ryan from Deise College, Jane Casey Florist, David Shanley, Junior Captains Daniel Raher & Ciara Whelan Barrett and Paul O’Riordan & Niamh Reynolds who sponsored sponsored our Golfer of the Year awards.

Without the support of these sponsors, we could not reach the level of success that we currently enjoy and we thank you all. We also acknowledge all contributions that members have made to our Junior section, be it a friendly word of encouragement or a financial donation, or maybe the taxi rides provided by parents. You have all played a role and we thank you.

Finally, we want to thank Niamh Reynolds for her massive contribution to our Junior Section, in particular girl’s golf. Niamh is stepping down from her role after 9 years and will be sorely missed. Majella Moynihan has the task to fill Niamh’s boots and we wish her every success.

Our next Junior activities will be during the Christmas period.

The wet golfing conditions did not deter our Juniors and Pre-Juniors in competing in the Captain’s Prize on Sunday 3rd Nov. Many were in the clubhouse as we did the Lotto Draw but we could barely see the late starters as they came up the 18th hole in the dark. A flashlight seemed to be a key piece of golfing equipment for these young golfers! There is great credit due to Grace and David Hayes and Niamh Reynolds for the work they put in to the organisation of the event and for their ongoing work in developing our Junior sections.

The numbers drawn were 2 7, 12 and 24. There was no winner of the Jackpot which increases to €6,400 next week.  There were seven winners of the Match 3s – Miriam Matthews, Tom Conway, John Condon, Kate Buckley, Isobel Brennock, Tom Conway’s Group and Ciaran/Daniel/David from the Proshop. They each win €25 – well done to each of them. Many thanks to Cormac, James, Harry and Irene for their help in completing the draw.

The draw next week will take place on Sunday afternoon about 4:30pm. Come along and support us – all are welcome.

Our Poker Classic was on Sunday 3rd November and congratulations to Seamus O’ Neill who won and to runner up Gina. It was a great night and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Our Progressive 45 were in action on Thursday night:

Joint Winners: Anne Ryan & Tom Cummins / Pat Harty & Tom Curran

Last Five: Cait Mulcahy & Jack Elstead

Lucky Table: Derry Cotter & Billy Connery
