Our first major event of the year, our Captains Prize took place over the weekend and what a great weekend it was! Captain David Byrne presented his prize to the members and it was a fantastic turnout to honour our captain with 250 members turning out. The course was in fantastic condition and the Captain set a tough but fair challenge.

After day one, Declan Walsh set the early pace shooting a 66 to take a one shot lead into Sunday’s final round from Donal Dempsey and Joe Kiely. The cut fell at 75 meaning sixty golfers were separated by 9 shots and it was anyone’s tournament to win. The early clubhouse lead was set by former Captain Des Cleary on 141 and as the leaders approached the final holes, it was proving to be an elusive target.

But one young man was playing superb golf and reeled off three consecutive birdies from the tenth. Jake O’Riordan was standing up to the challenge and despite a bogey on fifteen he stood one under par for the day playing the last. Finishing in style a drive and 5 iron to the edge of 18 resulted in another birdie and a superb three shot victory from this likeable young man.

A great crowd gathered on the first tee for the presentation and Captain David thanked all concerned for creating a memorable Captains Prize.

Congratulations to Grace Hayes who won the Men’s Captains Prize to the Ladies competition and received a beautiful prize presented by Captain David P. Byrne. A nice double for Team ProShop!
