The club received news, late on Wednesday evening, from Golf Ireland that Level 5 restrictions meant, that all sports facilities, including golf, must close from Thursday 22nd October for 6 weeks. The GUI & ILGU in their statement, acknowledged the efforts of all clubs throughout the year and have thanked volunteers, staff and members of all golf clubs for their work in ensuring our sport was played in a safe and responsible manner. They hope that with continued engagement with Government, golf clubs will be able to open as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

Our club acknowledges the sterling work done by all of its members, staff, committees and volunteers in fully complying with GUI directives this year. As a result, our golf has been one of the safest sporting activities in Ireland during the pandemic. We regret that “the powers that be” don’t acknowledge the many health benefits that ensue by leaving golf clubs open for casual golf. We already demonstrated earlier this year that under strict conditions, we can take our exercise safely, playing golf in the fresh air, at a safe distance, with our friends.

During the closedown, essential work will continue at the club. Anthony Morrissey and his team will continue to maintain the course and the office will be manned by Jimmy Wemyss for essential admin work, Monday to Friday from 9am until 1pm.

Many thanks to the many members who have paid their subscriptions this month. We ask all members to show their support for the club, if they are in a position to do so, by paying their subs as soon as possible. This can be done securely over the phone with Jimmy or by setting up a standing order with the bank. Given the restricted office hours, please be patient if the phone is busy and just leave your name and number on the voicemail and Jimmy will return your call. Please phone 058-43310 or email office@dungarvangolfclub.com.

Dungarvan Golf Club extends its sincere sympathies to our past Lady Captain Colette Power on the recent passing of her sister Helen O’Donnell. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
