We were delighted to be back playing golf last Tuesday 1st December with busy timesheets each day and happy golfers on the course. Our computers are all updated with the new World Handicapping System and working well. When you sign in at the Pro Shop the screen will show your Handicap Index and you’re Playing Handicap. Please focus on the screen as it goes off quickly and prints your ticket with your index only. You must write your Playing Handicap on your card. The software is now taking into account the 95% of your course handicap to give your competition playing handicap. When you record your scores on the computer it will calculate the results correctly so don’t panic! Master Scoreboard is also working on your phone app to enter scores. We would like to give special thanks to our Handicap Secretaries June and Martin and the Competition Secretaries Ina, Craig and Ray who have worked so hard to ensure everything is in place.
WINTER RULESWinter Rules are in force. Mark, Lift, Clean and Place within 6 inches everywhere. We are expecting some frosty mornings and the greenkeeper will advise us when play can take place. If your tee time is affected you are asked to let the Pro Shop know if you wish to play later when the course opens again. You must wait in your car and not congregate outside the Pro Shop. When play resumes the time sheet will run according to tee times from the first hole. The Pro Shop will then advise the earlier players which hole to play from. Please do co-operate with all instructions from the staff who must maintain the timesheet records correctly. Do take care to observe the Covid protocols at all times to ensure we keep safe at Dungarvan Golf Club. Please follow the one-way system to the Pro shop and ensure social distancing.MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS

We were delighted to see so many entries. We have five teams so it is all to play for!!! Each time you play nine holes (the first nine in play on the day), return your completed card into the box in the foyer. The best scores will be calculated at the end of each month. This year you will get an added point for each card you return (Max six cards per month). Entry fee is €15. There are a few outstanding fees – if you are one of those just put your money in an envelope with your name and drop it into box in the foyer please.
A huge thanks to Anne Henneberry and Marcella McGovern who have taken on the task again to run the league. There is a lot of work involved but it is of great benefit to our Get into Golf players.

WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM
Thank you to both the Men and Ladies Committees who continue to be very busy ensuring all aspects of the change to the World Handicap System runs smoothly. There are some new terms that you will need to become familiar with. ‘Handicap Index’ ‘Playing Index’ and ‘Slope Rating’ all of which came into play from the 2nd of November.
Your ‘Handicap Index’ is used to calculate your ‘Playing Index’, which will vary depending on the course you play. Each course will have its own ‘Slope Rating’ according to the difficulty of the course and therefore your ‘Playing Handicap’ will be different in different clubs. How is your Handicap Index calculated? The Handicap Index is averaged on your best rounds submitted in qualifying competitions over the past three years of play. From this your best 8 rounds are taken from 20 returns and averaged to give your index. The slope rating for Dungarvan Golf Club is as follows:Red Tees: 125 Green Tees: 121 Blue Tees: 125 White Tees: 123When you sign in to play you will see your ‘Handicap Index’ and the ‘Playing Index’ for the course.
How do you get to your Playing Handicap?
The computer does this for you but if you want to know how to work it out then there is a formula to follow. The formula to work out your Playing Handicap for any club is:
Handicap Index x slope rating divided by 113 (which is the average slope rating).
Example for a player with a handicap index of 18i.e., 18 x 125 divided by 113 = 19.9. Which means you will be playing off 20 in Dungarvan Golf Club.Charts will be displayed in every golf club when registering for a round of golf that will show the calculation for you to use. We will provide further information before we get back to playing golf. For further information visit www.golfnet.ie/whs
