Alas it was not to be Waterford’s day on Sunday but we were all proud of our hurlers and their management team. The excitement it brought to the county leading up to the match gave us all the much-needed boost after a very tough year. We have no doubt they will move on to more great things next year and continue to make us proud. Up the Deise!!

Our computers are all updated with the new World Handicapping System and working well. When you sign in at the Pro Shop the screen will show your Handicap Index and you’re Playing Handicap. Please focus on the screen as it goes off quickly and prints your ticket with your index only. You must write your Playing Handicap on your card. The software is now taking into account the 95% of your course handicap to give your competition playing handicap. When you record your scores on the computer it will calculate the results correctly so don’t panic! Master Scoreboard is also working on your phone app to enter scores. We would like to give special thanks to our Handicap Secretaries June and Martin and the Competition Secretaries Ina, Craig and Ray who have worked so hard to ensure everything is in place.

It was a hectic weekend for some of our Juniors and former juniors as they were proudly representing Waterford in GAA. Conor Kent, Charlie Treen and Sean Callaghan were in action on Saturday for the Minor team while Rian Hayes was in action for the Minor Football team. Conor Prunty and Neil Montgomery graced Croke Park with the Senior team and while the results didn’t go our way we were very proud to see our juniors in action and there is no doubt that they will go onto bigger and better achievements.

Junior coaching continues next Saturday 19th December at 3pm under the watchful eye of our club professional David Hayes. Due to Covid restrictions, places are limited so contact the ProShop at 058-44707 to reserve your slot. We are hosting a junior competition next Sunday 20th. All are welcome and the timesheet is available on the club website. Any enquiries relating to our Junior activities can be directed to our Junior Convenor David Hayes.

Up to now, all sporting organisations have advised their participants not to travel outside of their county to engage in sporting activity, save for some very limited exceptions. Golf Ireland discussed this issue with regard to these and other examples with Sport Ireland and confirmed with immediate effect that members can continue to travel to their Home Club to play golf.

It is important to note that this dispensation applies to local travel only, and only to home club members. It also remains the case that golfers are not permitted to travel beyond their county to play golf at a club which is not their home club while the Level 3 travel restrictions remain in place.

From 18 December until 6 January, all domestic travel restrictions will be lifted and golfers can travel to play golf beyond their county boundaries in all circumstances during this time.

Our Dungarvan Golf Club Gift Vouchers are popular once again this year. They can be used to pay towards membership subscription and greenfees. Why not give the gift of Golf Membership with rates for Under 35’s only €224. Contact the office on 058-43310 or email for further details. Our Pro Shop is busy with Christmas trade and has some great ideas for the golfer in your life. Do drop in or give David and Grace a call on 058-44707 or visit

We are back again next Friday Dec 18. If you would like some social golf, just go online and book your place.

The draw for teams has taken place and are posted in the Men’s and Ladies locker rooms. This league runs until the end of March. Check your team and start playing. It is a nine hole competition (the first nine holes in play on the day). Return your card, each time you play, into the GET INTO GOLF box in the foyer. The best scores will be recorded at the end of each month. This year there is an added bonus of one point each time you return a card. The Winter League is fun but it is also an incentive to play golf over the Winter and helps to improve your game.

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going”.  Yes indeed, conditions on the course are tough at the moment, but don’t forget to try and get an entry in for this month’s Winter League. The scores at the end of the month are combined with October, and the competition will be extended to April.  Even though you may feel you have had a terrible score, remember that every card entered will give you a point for your team (up to a max of 6 cards).  Let’s get the competition going!

Our next competition is on Wednesday 16th Dec from 11.20am – 12.30pm. Please book in online.

We had no competition on Wednesday 9th Dec as we were “rained out”. We will be back next Wednesday 16th.
