Our Open Fortnight got off to a great start last Friday with a very busy timesheet. We also welcomed a large society from Teva on Saturday and we received great compliments on our course and outside dining from our visitors over the weekend.
On Wednesday 7th a group of cyclists who were undertaking the Great Rugby Cycle 2021 were welcomed to the club by President Tom Phelan and members of management and staff. We treated them to refreshments on our balcony after their cycle from Cork that morning. This fantastic group of 40 cyclists left Belfast and travelled in an anti-clockwise direction around Ireland to raise funds for Motor Neuron Research and the ‘My Name’5 Doddie foundation’ set up by rugby legend Doddie Weir. The peloton was joined along the route by rugby legends, sporting stars and celebrities. We were thrilled they chose Dungarvan Golf Club as one of their stop off points.
This week our Open Fortnight sponsors include ATEC Security, Eurospar, Ryan Motor Power, Quinlan’s Butchers, Allrounder, Jim Quinn Agri, Helens Lingerie and Dungarvan Nissan. Our Golfer of the Fortnight is kindly sponsored by Noel Devereux Manshop. The support of all our sponsors is very much appreciated.

LADIES INTER CLUB COMPETITIONS
Our teams were out in force at the weekend for the Inter Club Competitions. First up was the Intermediate team who played Tramore home and away. Matches were closely fought with several remaining all square for most of the match. Majella won on the 17th in Tramore and Maura finished on the 17th also in Dungarvan. All was left to Bernie Hayes who managed to close it out on the 17th as well. Special mention goes to Sara Moynihan who played in Tramore in her first match play ever. Although defeated Sara played outstanding golf, even birdying the index 1 there.
Our Junior Cup team were playing Youghal on Sunday and again matches were closely fought. Our team was depleted due to injury and sickness and thanks is due to Bridget and Linda who stepped up from the Intermediate panel to help out so that the match could go ahead. Well done to Cathie and Bridget who had great wins on the 16th and 17th respectively in Dungarvan. It was now left to Carmel in Youghal who had a closely fought match but clinched it on the 18th to bring the team through.
Well done to all the panel players and managers for their commitment and getting us into the next rounds. Next up are our Challenge and Revive Active teams.

This programme for ladies got underway this week with thirty ladies participating. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the ladies as they were coached by our PGA professional David Hayes. We were delighted to welcome the ladies to our club and hopefully they will have many years of golf in Dungarvan Golf Club.Sincere thanks to Colette Power and the GIG committee who are so committed to ensuring the success of the programme. Help will be needed when these Ladies start on the course from 3 August. Please do volunteer to give one hour of your time to go out with the ladies in a scramble on a Tuesday evening. We currently have 44 members who went through this programme at the club. The success is due to other members supporting the programme and ensuring the new members are made to feel welcome and helped to learn our wonderful game that drives us all crazy!
JUNIOR GOLF NEWS
Our Fred Daly team were in action last Saturday against an experienced Faithlegge team. Due to the nature of the tournament we had to concede 59 shots in handicap but our boys put up a tremendous fight leaving the result n doubt well into the back 9. Unfortunately experience told in the end and Faithlegge emerged victorious. Our lads gained great experience from this game which will serve our young team well in the future. Thanks to all concerned for their efforts.
