Angela’s roots are firmly local, as her Mother was from the Burgery and her Father from Clonea Upper. Although raised and educated in London Angela returned home every holiday renewing acquaintances in the Burgery, Abbeyside and Clonea.

Angela’s career began as a PE teacher and she quickly rose through the ranks becoming the youngest Headteacher appointed in London. She worked in the most deprived areas and ensured her students received the best opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential.  She was recognised nationally as a leader in education and spoke at many national conferences. She retired after 39 successful years having been a Principal of 3 different schools.

Angela took up golf in preparation for retirement. She joined Dungarvan Golf Club during a trip home 10 years ago. She has given much to the club since joining.  She spent 5 years on the social committee organising the very popular Bank Holiday and other scrambles and many social events. She was part of the Strategic Committee who put together the successful strategic plan that has transformed the club. During her tenure as Chair of House and Social she ensured many improvements to the Clubhouse. She is committed to the Get into Golf programme to help ladies get access to our wonderful game. She has represented the club on various teams.

We wish her all the best for her Captains Prize Weekend.

GENTS TEAM’S – UPDATES Our Barton Shield are now through to the area final against Cahir Park. Our Junior Cup team unfortunately were beaten by a very strong Waterford Castle. Our Jimmy Bruen team were beaten by that Goldcoast and our Mixed Team won its match on Sunday 25th.

Commiseration to the Challenge and Revive Active teams who were both defeated in this round. The Challenge Cup put up a great fight against Waterford Castle but came up against a slightly stronger team. Our Revive Active Foursomes matches against West Waterford were closely fought ending on the 19th hole in Dungarvan. Thanks to all the players and managers for your commitment. We now look to the Intermediate panel that are playing the Gold Coast on Monday 26th at 5.30pm. Supporters are welcome.

Hard luck to our Fred Perry team who came up just short of beating Templemore who are the reigning Munster Champions and All Ireland Runners Up. Well done to all involved.

Next Saturday and Sunday (Jul 31 and Aug 1) is our Lady Captains weekend. We would like to wish our Lady Captain Angela Murphy the very best for one of the major events in the golfing calendar.

The lessons with our PGA David Hayes are coming to a close and our new ladies are very enthusiastic and excited about going out on our fine golf course. The on-course activities begin on Tues Aug 3 from 7-8 pm and will continue for four weeks. Please keep in mind the COVID protocol to ensure everyone’s safety i.e. sanitising, social distance etc. We are looking for help to facilitate these. If you have an hour, please add your name to the list in the Ladies locker room.  A huge thanks to David Hayes for his encouragement and attention to detail over the past four weeks.

Our Lady Captain Angela Murphy is inviting all our new Get into Golf ladies to partake in a putting competition next Sunday afternoon (Aug 1) as part of her weekend.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our new golfers to sample the atmosphere and excitement of the Captain’s weekend.

Unfortunately, our Juvenile juggernaut came to a stop on Sunday against Tipperary. Having punched way above our weight with exciting victories over Tramore and Faithlegg, our team of Rody Morrissey, Darragh Moynihan, AJ Hayes and Mattie Mullaney failed to overcome a slow start and succumbed to a strong Tipperary team by 2 holes. Thanks to our players, parents, supporters and especially Peter and James for making this exciting journey possible. Much more will come from this young team.

Our Junior lessons on Saturday continue next Saturday at 3pm and places must be reserved in advance by contacting the Pro Shop on 058-44707.

We ask all our junior members to continue to observe Covid protocols. Do not turn up without being on the timesheet for the course or practice ground. Any enquiries relating to junior activities at Dungarvan can be directed to our junior convenor David Hayes. David can be contacted at 058-44707 or email

The Pro Shop is open for all your golf equipment and clothing needs. Please contact David or Grace on 058-44707 or email
