The R&A and USGA have unveiled a regular update to the Rules of Golf as they continue to make the Rules easier to understand and apply. The new Rules will go into effect on 1 January 2023.

Several penalties have been relaxed and language has been clarified to help golfers at all levels of play.

Key changes include:

  • Modifications for Players with Disabilities: These modifications to the Rules for players with disabilities have been made part of the Rules and are in effect for all players who fall under the categories covered in Rule 25.
  • Handicap Usage in Stroke Play: With the continued growth of digital scoring following the adoption of the World Handicap System, players are no longer required to show their handicap on their scorecard in stroke play. The Committee will be responsible for calculating the player’s handicap strokes for the competition and using that to calculate the player’s net score.
  • Club Damaged During Round: The Rule has been amended to allow a player to replace a club that is damaged during a round, provided the player did not damage it through abuse.
  • Ball Moved by Natural Forces: A new Exception provides that a ball at rest must be replaced if it moves to another area of the course or comes to rest out of bounds after being dropped, placed or replaced.
  • Back-on-the-Line Relief Procedure: The back-on-the-line relief procedure, often used for penalty area and unplayable ball relief, has been simplified so that the player now drops their ball on the line, and the ball must come to rest within one club-length of where it is dropped.

After a two week break our players “lined out” for our competition on Wednesday 15th Nov.  We were lucky to have beautiful weather. The recent rain caused the course to play long and players had to keep their eye on the ball to ensure they could find in soft areas.  The winner was: 1st Pat Power 16pts

Our Christmas party will take place on Wednesday 7th Dec. We will play a 9 hole scramble followed by our meal and prizegiving. If you wish to play in our society please book on the timesheet. New members are always welcome to join.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great Junior joining rates.

We had our weekly Lotto 4 draw on Friday, 18th Nov. This was Week 27 of 52.
The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 14 and 22. The jackpot was €10,000 and there was no winner. The jackpot remains at €10,000 for the next draw. We had three match 3 winners – George Walsh, Peter Flynn and Ciaran Cullinane who each win €67 due to there being no match three winner on 11th Nov.

To play online please go to our website and select Online Lotto. The next draw will take place on Friday 25th November at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.
