Our friend Michael Kelleher passed away on Wednesday 3rd May. Michael has been a member of our club for almost 50 years. During that time, he served on the men’s committee, sponsored club events and played in many interclub matches.

However, it was his presence in the clubhouse that will be our greatest loss. Michael was a big personality who talked, laughed and brought great joy to all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

He had a great love for our club and enjoyed playing social golf with his many friends in the evenings – this was more important to him than any Ryder Cup and he would be quick to let you know how each player performed. He was also a great card player and took part in the weekly progressive 45 each Thursday night.

Michael will be sadly missed by all our members but especially his long-time friend Tom Melody. They shared many cups of coffees while discussing golf, GAA and general local news. We extend our sympathy to Niall, Orlagh & extended Kelleher family at this sad time. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

We extend our sincerest sympathies to club member George Walsh on the sudden passing of his wife Dorothy. Our thoughts are with George and all his family at this very sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

We extend our sincere condolences to club member Michael Fitzgerald on the recent passing of his brother Tom. May he rest in peace.

We offer our sympathies to club member Patsy Horsom on the recent passing of his nephew Gary Donnelly. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

Our Fred Perry team had a great win away to Youghal on Thursday last. They played in atrocious conditions the team pulled through on a scoreline of 3 and a half to 1 and a half. The team was as follows: John Gough & Jim Harty; Liam Hansbury & Tony Power; Des Cleary & Tommy Butler; Declan Walsh & Matt Curran; Craig Susdorf & Sean McGovern. The next round is a home game against Clonmel GC.

Many congratulations to the Intermediate Ladies Team who beat Templemore at Dungarvan Golf Club yesterday. The team included Majella Moynihan, Joanne Fitzgerald, Angela Murphy, June Hayes and Linda Buckley.  These wonderful players were ably assisted by their caddies, Mary Power, June James, Frances Millerick, Anne Heneberry and Breda McCarthy. And of course, great credit also goes to the Team Managers Maria Kiersey and Margaret Harty.  Well done to all.  The next match is either Dundrum or Faithlegg.

Next Sunday, sees our Revive team playing Thurles in Thurles Golf Club and the Challenge Cup team playing Youghal at home. Best of luck to all.

Our Get Into Golf Information evening was held last Tuesday for men and women and surpassed all expectation with over sixty people signing on for the coming year. The clubhouse was packed as Pat Cumiskey and Fiona Rochford recalled their experience as Get into Golf members.

Our PGA Professional David Hayes spoke about the value of coming through the Get into Golf programme as it outlines the proper approach to golf from the outset. David also emphasised the social aspect of our club, outlining the various social golf competitions also other social activities such as card playing, book club, bridge (to name but a few). We are delighted to welcome so many new members to our golf club and look forward to working with them going forward.

Last Sunday we held yet another scramble for our members. These scrambles are drawing a large entry on Sunday afternoon and are real social events. Last Sunday was no exception.
