JB CARR TEAM – MUNSTER CHAMPIONS

Our JB Carr team had a great win in the Munster Final last Tuesday 8^th and they now proceed to the All-Ireland Finals weekend in Woodenbridge GC, Co Wicklow on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September. Reaching the All-Ireland finals is a massive achievement and great honour for our club. We have used 14 players in the campaign to date. They are Tommy Butler, Liam Carroll, Des Cleary, Maurice Conway, Matt Curran, John Gough, Liam Hansbury, Jim Harty, PJ Kindregan, John G Moloney, Johnny Norris, Tony Power, Pat Stack and Declan Walsh.

The format is 5 pairs playing Scotch Foursomes Matchplay. We have achieved some success in this competition in recent years winning 5 of the last 6 Waterford County finals and Provincial runners up in 2017. We would encourage and appreciate maximum support from our members for the first weekend in September. Congratulations to all our team and team managers we wish them the very best of luck.

Our Juniors Interclub team are also in an All Ireland Final. The panel of Diarmuid Mackle, Harry Breen, Niall McCarthy, Fionnan Drohan, Bryan Kiely and James O’Donnell Are practicing hard for our trip to Castletroy on Wednesday 30^th August. All support will be welcome.

OPEN CLUB CLASSIC

Our popular annual Open Club Classic got off to a great start on Monday with a very busy timesheet. Thank you to all our members and visitors who have booked in and we have some tee times available for the remainder of the week. Entries are €100 per team and we have some fantastic prizes on offer this year. We also have a raffle with lots of great prizes to be won. Tickets for the raffle are on sale in the office or from any committee member. We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors along with our members to the club this week. Thank you to all the local businesses for sponsoring our classic. We really appreciate your support of our annual fundraising event.

LOTTO JACKPOT WINNER!!

We had our weekly Lotto 5 draw today on Friday, 11th Aug. This was Week 13 of 52. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 12 and 25. The jackpot was €10,000 and there was great excitement in the clubhouse when after a very long time we had a jackpot winner!! The winner is club member Jerry McCarthy. Congratulations to Jerry on his big win!

Our new jackpot is €10,000. All funds are directed to course improvement projects. To play online please go to our website www.dungarvangolfclub.com and select Online Lotto. Tickets also on sale in the clubhouse. The next draw will take place on Friday 18^th August at 3.30pm. 

ANNUAL LEFT HANDERS COMPETITION
The 48^th Annual Left-Handers Competition will be played over the weekend 24th. -27th. August. Open to Ladies & Gentlemen (Members Only) 18 Hole Stableford. All left-handed players please support this competition.

LADIES AWAY GOLF TRIP

Our Ladies Away golf trip itinerary has been sent by email to members. On Monday 25th September we travel to Carlow Golf Club, tee time from 12 Noon playing in 4’s. Later that evening we book in to Mount Wolseley Hotel (about 10 mins drive). B&B to include 4 course dinner. On Tuesday 26th September, Breakfast at Hotel and 18H Golf tee time from 9.30am. Please add your name on the notice in the ladies locker room for what promises to be a lovely few days away.

JUNIOR NEWS

We had a great turnout again for our Junior Lessons on Saturday. Thank you to David Kavanagh and Peter Mullaney for their invaluable assistance.

Lessons continue every Saturday at 3pm and cost €5. No need to book! If your child is interested in joining as a junior member, please give us a call for further information. 

AUTUMN OPEN WEEK – OCTOBER

Our annual autumn open week will take place from Monday 2nd to Sunday 8^th October. This is always a popular week on our golf calendar and bookings will be open online soon.

YOUNGONES

We had no Youngones last week as our Presidents Scramble was on and again this week as our Club Classic takes place. We are back in action on Wednesday 23^rd August at a later time of 12.30pm.

60.COM

We had no 60.com competition on Wednesday 9th August as the President’s Scramble was taking place that day. We will also have no 60.com competition on Wednesday 16th August due to the club fundraising classic taking place that week. Please take part in the classic and help our fundraising efforts. Our Outing to Faithlegg Golf Club take place on 23^rd August. The booking sheet will be available in the Clubhouse from Sunday 14^th Aug. to the following Friday.

FUN FRIDAY FOURSOMES

Despite a wet start on Friday, we had a large turnout for our Foursomes. We were delighted to welcome Zoe Scanlon and Imelda Killigrew – it is great to see our new golfers getting involved. The foursomes are an opportunity to meet others and learn the many rules of this fascinating game!

GET INTO GOLF 9H QUALIFYING COMPETITION
Due to heavy rain last Tuesday this competition was deferred until Tuesday Aug 22.
We run this competition each Tuesday evening at six pm. It is specifically for our Get into Golf ladies who have not reached a handicap of 36. It is hugely popular and ideal for many of our new golfers who are coming from work. Booking is open for Aug 22 so go online and book your place.
