JB CARR DIAMOND TROPHY

It was a very exciting weekend for our club as our JB Carr team and club members travelled to Woodenbridge Golf Club for the JB Carr Diamond Trophy. Having won the Munster Championship we qualified for the All-Ireland finals which take place in Woodenbridge every year.

The team attended and enjoyed a wonderful opening ceremony on Friday night where the draw took place for the semi-finals. We were drawn against Castlebar Golf Club and our tee time was 11am on Saturday morning. The weather conditions were great but it was not to be our day. The team played exceptionally well with a very hard-fought battle to the end. They were beaten 3-2, losing matches 4 & 5 on the 18th. A very close match indeed.

They played Clandeboye Golf Club on Sunday morning in the 3rd/4th place play off and were delighted to win and place 3rd in Ireland. A super achievement and we are all very proud of the team. They enjoyed a fantastic gala evening on Sunday night to celebrate their win and thank you to Woodenbridge for being such generous hosts. In the final this year Castlebar Golf Club defeated Malahide Golf Club 4-1.

Congratulations to the panel, Tommy Butler, Liam Carroll, Des Cleary, Maurice Conway, Matt Curran, John Gough, Liam Hansbury, Jim Harty, Eamonn Keane, PJ Kindregan, John G Moloney, John Norris, Tony Power, Pat Stack and Declan Walsh. Thank you to team managers Jimmy Wemyss and Martin Lynch for all the hard work they put into planning and organising everything for the team over the past few months. A well-deserved rest is due now!

Sincere thank you to our very generous sponsors Norris Brothers for sponsoring our club clothes and Paddy Foley’s Bar for sponsorship of golf balls. Also, many thanks to our members for their donations in support of the JB Carr team. Thank you to our President June James and Captain Brian Beatty, Lady Captain Una O’Connell and Chairman Pat Power who travelled to support along with so many members which was really appreciated by all the team.

JUNIOR NEWS

Our Junior Boys played in the Irish Boys Inter Club Finals last Wednesday 30th in Castletroy Golf Club. It was a fantastic achievement to reach the finals and we are all very proud of this team. Hard luck to the boys who were defeated on the day but the future is very bright for these great golfers. The team was Junior Captain Harry Breen, James O’Donnell, Fionnán Drohan, Niall McCarthy, Bryan Kiely and Diarmuid Mackle. Special thanks to member Angela Murphy for sponsoring our Juniors and to all our members for their donations in support of the Junior Boys team. Thank you to our PGA Pro and Junior Convenor David Hayes for his commitment to our Junior members and to Alan O’Donnell for his invaluable assistance and President June James and everyone who travelled to support the team.
