GET INTO GOLF PROGRAMME

Our Get into Golf Programme starts week beginning 8^th April for Men and on 9^th April for Ladies and we have been very busy taking names for this very popular course. If you are a beginner to golf then this is the course for you! We will hold four weekly group lessons with our Pro David Hayes, followed by four weeks on course practice all for just €50.

We have Men’s and Ladies lessons and it is a great way to meet new people and lots of fun guaranteed. If you are interested, please email us office@dungarvangolfclub.com or call the office 058-43310 to reserve your place. We will be holding an Information Evening in the clubhouse on 2^nd April at 7pm for all those signed up to attend.

JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP 2024

Our Junior Membership year commences from 1^st April. If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form. Children will have great fun at Dungarvan Golf Club, learn to play golf, make new friends and develop life skills.

Our popular weekly Saturday lessons for juniors will commence in April. These group lessons with our PRO David Hayes are great fun and our Juniors learn so much each week.

3 CLUB COMPETITION.

Much head scratching was heard last Tuesday morning as the ladies had the challenge of deciding which clubs to use for the novel 3 club competition. A great turnout supported the event and congratulations to the winners of the 3 categories. As a matter of interest, we asked the winners what clubs they chose, and here are their choices.

Division 1, Mai O’Brien, (16 pts), chose her driver, rescue club and 9 iron.  She confessed that when the 9 iron failed her on the green, she had much more success with her driver.

Division 2, Theresa Keane, (17pts), selected her 5 wood, 7 iron and a putter.

Division 3, Mary Buckley, (14 pts), packed her 4 hybrid, 7 iron and also her putter.

Many players remarked that they had a better score with the 3 clubs than with the full bag of weapons; maybe a lesson learnt! We have another 3 club competition scheduled for late September when hopefully the course will be drier and we will have a better run of the ball.

SOUTH EAST JUNIOR ALLIANCE

A very successful SEJA Captain’s Prize was held in Kilkenny G.C. on Sunday. Dungarvan G.C. was well represented and a good day was had by all. Local winners included Martin Lynch in category two and Sean McGovern & Pat Phelan in category three. The delegate’s prize was won by Frank North of West Waterford. The winner of the Captain’s prize was our own Jack Elstead. In his victory speech Jack complemented Kilkenny on the wonderful state of the golf course and his remarks were well received by the large gathering.

The golfer of the year was also confirmed. The competition was kindly sponsored by John Norris of Norris Brothers and was won by Tom Butler (Dungarvan). In second place was Phil Kinsella (West Waterford) and to complete a clean sweep for the Dungarvan area, in third place was Michael Kavanagh (Gold Coast). The captaincy falls to Dungarvan next season so we hope for better weather overall and continued good support for the South East Junior Alliance.

MEMBERS GOLF INSURANCE

An email has gone out to all members to remind them to contact the office if they would like to renew their existing personal golf insurance policy or to avail of it for the first time. The deadline is end of March. Please call us and we can take payment over the phone.

SUNDAY SOCIAL SCRAMBLE

YOUNGONES

A smaller crowd for our weekly competitions last week due to the continued bad weather we are getting. 1^st Bernie Lynch (29) 13pts. Our next competition is on Wednesday 13^th please book in on the timesheet.

60.COM

We had a smaller than normal crowd for our 60.com Wednesday 6th March. Rain during the morning caused some people to withdraw. Nonetheless we had excellent scoring: 1^st Jim O’Mahony 19pts. If you are over 60 years of age, and interested in social golf, then put your name on the timesheet and join us any Wednesday.

This year we celebrate 100 years of Dungarvan Golf Club and we want you to be a part of it! We have a great joining rate for new members €400 (+ €28 Golf Ireland fee) for the first year. We also have Country Membership, Student, Junior and family rates available.

Dungarvan Golf Club has lots to offer everyone. We have an excellent Pro Shop for all your equipment needs, our PGA Professional David Hayes who along with giving great golf advice gives lessons to beginners and seasoned golfers. We have a range of competitions and casual golf options for all types of golfers.

Our beautiful bar and restaurant is very popular, Tom and his team serve delicious breakfasts, lunches and evening meals daily.  We have plenty of social events throughout the year and also weekly bridge, cards and poker nights along with book clubs, day trips and visits to other golf courses. LOTTO RESULTS

We had our weekly Lotto draw on Friday, 8th March. This was Week 43 of 52. The numbers drawn were 7, 10, 16 and 24. The jackpot was €6,400, and there was no winner.
The jackpot is €6,500 for the next draw. We had three match 3 winners – Jean O Rourke, Joe O Toole and Patrick McGovern – who win €34 each. Lotto tickets can be purchased on our website www.dungarvangolfclub.com or in the clubhouse. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course. Our next draw is on Friday 15^th March.

FRIDAY BRIDGE
