SYMPATHIES

It was with great sadness we learned of the passing of Former President Garry Morrissey on Saturday 27^th. Garry was President of our club in Ballincourty in 1983. Our sincere sympathies are extended to his wife Ann, daughter Colette, sons Michael, Brian, Barry, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

We offer our condolences to Denis O’Brien on the recent passing of his sister Marion Morrissey. Our thoughts are with Denis and all the family at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

LADY CAPTAINS WEEKEND

Our Lady Captains Prize kindly presented by Kolette Enright took place over the weekend. Congratulations to Carmel Fox on winning the Lady Captains Prize and to all those who won the most beautiful prizes kindly presented by our wonderful Lady Captain Kolette Enright.

The weather was glorious over the weekend. The sun was shining, and everyone complimented how fantastic the course was thanks to our hard-working greenkeepers. 

On Sunday night we had the presentation of prizes, and the huge turnout of ladies ensured a fantastic atmosphere around the clubhouse. Thank you to Tom and all his team in the bar for all their hard work all weekend. Congratulations to Kolette and all the ladies committee on such a well organised event.

SPAR QUALIFIER 2024

Congratulations to our SPAR Qualifiers to date. This Open competition is run every Friday and is kindly sponsored by SPAR. Next competition is this Friday 2^nd August and the timesheet is open online for bookings. Congratulations to our week 6 qualifiers:

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB TEAM

Our opponents are Limerick GC. This contest will be played in Thurles GC on Sunday, 18th August and there will be five Fourball matches. We very much appreciate all the support of our members during our campaigns to date and we know that we can count on your continued support in the next few weeks.

JB CARR MUNSTER FINAL

Our opponents are Woodstock GC from Ennis, Co Clare and it’s a repeat of last year’s Munster Final. The contest will be played over two legs (home and away) with five Scotch Foursomes matches each. The first leg is at home on this Thursday, 1st August and the first match tees off at 13.50. The second leg will be played in Woodstock on Thursday, 8th August starting at 13.00. SUNDAY SOCIAL SCRAMBLE
Our next Social Scramble is this Sunday (Aug 4). Shotgun start at 5 pm. As we have a lot of new members these scrambles are invaluable as they help them to meet others and integrate into our club. They are great social events and great fun. Booking has opened so go online and book your place. We would love to see you there.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

Our Golf Sixes team were in action on Sunday in Lismore Golf Club. They are a great bunch of junior golfers – Sean Keating, Will Browne, Sean Queally, Ronan O’Donnell, Ellie Kiely and Anna Rochford.  We had a super turnout for our Junior lessons last Saturday thank you to all the parents who helped us on the day.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form. Children will have great fun at Dungarvan Golf Club, learn to play golf, make new friends and develop life skills.

The annual Past and Present Lady Captains/Presidents competition will be held on Sunday 8th September and the timesheet is now open for member and visitor bookings. This is a team of two competition with Handicap Limit of 36.

We had our 4th outing of 2024 in Tramore Golf Club on Wednesday 24 July.  As usual we had a full-time sheet. The weather was overcast and gloomy but this did not stop excellent scores being returned.

Weather conditions were ideal for our foursomes last Friday morning with a very large entry. We were delighted to welcome Bob and Karen Frizelle and Isobel Flynn who joined us for the first time last Friday morning.

GET INTO GOLF PRACTICE
This continues each Monday evening for our 2024 participants (ladies and men) at 7pm. It is an ideal opportunity to meet others and practice your golf. Timesheet is booked off specifically for our new golfers.

GET INTO GOLF 9 HOLE QUALIFYING COMPETITION
This competition takes place each Tuesday evening at 6 pm. Entries are increasing each week and is a great way for our new golfers to familiarise themselves with all that is involved in participating in competitions.

DIVOTS, BUNKERS & PITCHMARKS

Members are reminded to please ensure that you replace divots, rake bunkers and repaid pitch marks on the greens.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 26th July. This was Week 11 of 52.
The numbers drawn were 2, 9, 14 and 20. The jackpot was €2,800, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €2,900 for the next draw. We had four match 3 winners – Paul Breen, John McCarthy, James Tobin and Peter Finnegan – who win €25 each. The next draw will take place on Friday 2^nd August at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is on sale in the clubhouse, Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.
