PRESIDENTS PRIZE 2024

The President’s Prize, kindly presented by June James, will be held on Friday 30th/Saturday 31^st August with the final round on Sunday 1^st September. On Friday 30th/Saturday 31st an 18 Hole Stableford first round will be played off the white markers for men and red for ladies, with the top 60 men (plus ties) and the top 40 ladies (plus ties) qualifying to play in a second round on Sunday 1^st September. Please put your name on the timesheet and play at your selected time. The timesheet for the final round on Sunday 1^st September will be posted online Saturday night after 9pm approx.

There will also be an option to play in a separate 18-hole stableford competition on either Friday 30^th or Saturday 31^st off the blue tee markers for men and red markers for woman. This is to facilitate any member who cannot take part in the main President’s 36-hole competition.

A GIG 9-hole stableford competition for men and woman off the green tees for men and red tees for woman will be held from 5 p.m. on Saturday the 31^st August. A 9-hole junior stableford competition playing off the whites for boys and red markers for girls will be held on Sunday the 1^st September at 4p.m.    

There will be a 9-hole Presidents Scramble on Wednesday 28^th with a shotgun start at 6.30pm. All members and their partners are invited to the Clubhouse on Sunday 1^st September for the presentation of prizes at 8pm. We wish our esteemed President June James the very best for her Presidents Prize weekend.

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB MUNSTER FINAL

We were defeated by a very strong Limerick GC team in the Munster Final on Sunday. The final took place in Thurles GC and Limerick won on a 3.5-1.5 scoreline. Des Cleary and Tommy Butler won their match on 18 with Tommy holing a 30-foot birdie putt. We lost 3 matches on the 17th green and the final match, featuring PJ Kindregan and Matt Curran, was called in after 16 holes.

SPAR QUALIFIER 2024

GET INTO GOLF SOCIAL EVENING
This is scheduled for next Monday (Aug 26). It is a mixed event, starting with a scramble at 6.30 pm, followed by presentation and light refreshments in the bar later. Booking has opened so just go online and book your place. It is purely social and will be great fun.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

Our weekly junior tournament honours went to James O’Donnell with a fantastic score of 41 points. Our next tournament takes place on Wednesday 22^nd Aug. Timesheet is now live so book online.

We continue to have a great turnout for our walk in junior lessons every Saturday. Thanks to James, Liam and David for their fantastic assistance to Pro David Hayes. Its great to see so many little golfers learning their way to a golfing career. All of our Junior Members who attend the Saturday classes are invited to a Get Into Golf program starting this Sunday 25^th Aug at 3pm (must be paid up members of club). Adults will take our juniors onto the course and teach them about Rules, Etiquette and Safety tips. Please contact the Pro Shop to secure your place. Any enquiries relating to junior activities please contact David Hayes.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form.

LADIES OVERNIGHT GOLF TRIP

Our annual overnight golf trip this year is to Ballykisteen, Co Limerick on Wednesday 18th September with golf the following day at Tipperary Golf Club. The list and details are in the locker room; please add your name if you can join the party! Looking forward to a big turnout for this event; both courses are challenging, and the craic will be mighty!

PAST & PRESENT CAPTAINS/PRESIDENTS

The annual Past and Present Captains/Presidents competition will be held on Sunday 8th September and the timesheet is almost fully booked, just a few times remaining. This is a team of two competition with Handicap Limit of 36. This is open to both men and ladies.

YOUNGONES

We had no competition last Wednesday, we are back this Wednesday at an earlier start time from 10.30am. Please book in online.

60.COM

We had no 60.com competition on Wednesday 14^th Aug as the course was closed to facilitate course project work. We will have our fifth outing of 2024 on Tuesday 20^th Aug when we play New Ross Golf Club. If you are interested in social golf, and are over 60 years of age, then join us any Wednesday by putting your name on our timesheet.

Refresher Golf Lessons for Get into Golf Ladies
These lessons for our Get into Golf ladies started on Monday last. The lessons are in huge demand with a waiting list in operation. We are so lucky to have our PGA Professional David Hayes on site to provide these extra lessons. The lessons are invaluable to our ladies at this stage.

GET INTO GOLF 9 HOLE QUALIFYING COMPETITION
This competition continues each Tuesday evening at 6 pm. Competition is keen and it is a great platform for our new ladies to get used to using the computer and playing in competitions. Due to course maintenance, we had no competition last Tuesday.

SUNDAY SOCIAL SCRAMBLE

Our next social scramble is this Sunday (Aug 25). Shotgun start at 5 pm. It is open to all members. Booking is open so add your name if you are free. We would love to see you there.

DIVOTS, BUNKERS & PITCHMARKS

Members are reminded to please ensure that you replace divots, rake bunkers and repaid pitch marks on the greens.

LOTTO RESULTS

We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 16th August. This was Week 14 of 52.
The numbers drawn were 8, 17, 18 and 27. The jackpot was €3,100, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €3,200 for the next draw. We had one match 3 winner – Joan Phelan – who wins €100. The next draw will take place on Friday 23^rd August at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.
