The attendance included Mary Butler TD, Minister of State at the Department of health, Cllr Pat Nugent, Cathaoirleach Dungarvan Lismore District Council, June James, President Dungarvan Golf Club and Rosemary Tully, President Golf Ireland. Also in attendance were chairperson, captains, vice-captains and committee members of the club, as well as past captains, past presidents, past chairpersons and members.

JB CARR ALL IRELAND SERIES

The All Ireland Semifinals and Final took place in Woodenbridge GC over the weekend. On Saturday morning, we took on Ballinrobe GC from Co Mayo in the second semifinal. It was a very tight match but we came out on the wrong side of a 3.5 – 1.5 result. Maurice Conway and Johnny Norris won their match 4&3. Des Cleary and Tommy Butler were literally hit by an avalanche in their match. Des and Tommy were 1 up after 16 but their opponents had a hole in one on the par 3 17th to bring the match back to all square. The Ballinrobe pair had earlier eagled the par 4 third hole. Ballinrobe went on to win the match on the 18th.Declan Walsh and Matt Curran were in a strong position in match 5 before they were called in. So, the matches were much closer than the scoreline might suggest. In the first semifinal, Westmanstown defeated Rossmore. We played Rossmore in the third/fourth place playoff on Sunday and we lost that 4-1.Ballinrobe defeated Westmanstown 3.5 – 1.5 in the final on Sunday to win an All-Ireland for Co Mayo. Even though there was disappointment at the weekend, the team have had a great campaign winning another County Final and retaining the Munster Provincial title. There’s always next year!!!
