CAPTAINS DRIVE IN

Under ideal conditions, the Captains Drive-in and scramble took place last Sunday January 14th. There was a great crowd in attendance to welcome the new Captains for 2024, Men’s captain Liam Hansbury, Lady Captain Kolette Enright, and Junior Captains Diarmuid Mackle and Sarah Moynihan. Each captain in turn hit wonderful drives to start the proceedings, despite David Hayes playing tricks by placing fun balls on the tees to begin with! Thank you to David for his delicious mulled wine which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Following the drive in we held a scramble which was enjoyed in beautiful sunshine and a large number of members hitting fairways. Thank you to Tom and his team for refreshments which were very welcome at the end of the scramble when everyone began to feel the effects of the chilly January weather.

We have a great new member joining rate for 2024 – join us for €400 (+ €28 Golf Ireland fee) for the year. Dungarvan Golf Club has lots to offer everyone.

We have an excellent Pro Shop for all your equipment needs, our PGA Professional David Hayes who along with giving great golf advice gives lessons to beginners and seasoned golfers. We have a range of competitions and casual golf options for all types of golfers.

We have a beautiful bar and restaurant where Tom and his team serve delicious breakfasts, lunches and evening meals daily.  We have plenty of social events throughout the year and also weekly bridge, cards and poker nights along with book clubs, day trips and visits to other golf courses. MENS SPRING LEAGUE

The Spring League will commence on Thursday 1st February. The format is teams of six persons self -selected, nominate your own captains and play on competition days (Thursday/Saturday & Sunday) by entering those competitions. If you want to enter and don’t have a full team, we can organise a team for you. Entries can be made on the notice board in Men’s locker room. Each player’s six best cards to count over the 21 competition days. The qualifying competition will run until Sunday 17th March. The final will be played between the top two teams between the 18th – 31st March inclusive. Final will be Matchplay. Captain of the team will nominate the order of their team and the best score of the pairings will apply.

LADIES SPRING LEAGUE

The Spring League has begun.  This is a 9-hole singles competition where your best 2 cards will count each month from January until end of March. The more you play, the better chance of getting those 2 great scores. Further details on the noticeboard in the locker room.  Good luck to all the participants.

It was terrific to get back to the fairways on Wednesday 10^th Jan. Our 60.com members were “bursting with enthusiasm” and couldn’t wait to test out their game in 2024. As a result, we had a full timesheet and excellent scores.

We were delighted to see so many on the timesheet last Friday for our first Fun Friday Foursomes of 2024 and the first foursomes of our Centenary Year. SUNDAY SOCIAL SCRAMBLE
This Sunday (Jan14) sees the first of our Sunday afternoon scrambles for 2024. We have a shotgun start at one pm.  These are great social events and a fun way to spend your Sunday afternoon if you are free. Booking has opened so go online and book your place.

LOTTO RESULTS

We had our weekly Lotto 5 draw on Friday, 12th January. This was Week 35 of 52.
The numbers drawn were 13, 14, 25 and 28. The jackpot was €5,600, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €5,700 for the next draw. We had three match 3 winners – Brenda Cummins, Declan Walsh and Gerard Raher – who win €34 each. Lotto tickets can be purchased on our website www.dungarvangolfclub.com or in the clubhouse. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course. Our next draw is on Friday 19^th January.
