JUNIOR NEWS
The Easter holidays came to a satisfactory conclusion as our Fred Daly team overcame a tough Tramore team in the first round. Mattie Mullaney led us away producing sparkling golf in difficult conditions and led by one hole after 9. Junior Captain AJ Hayes played solid golf and was always in control in match two. But Rory McKeown and James O’Donnell were struggling and turned three down while Patrick Mullaney was battling hard to remain one down. But our boys never gave up and produced more brilliant golf on the back nine. Mattie did a fine job closing out a high-quality top match winning on eighteen, AJ quickly followed also winning on eighteen. Needing just one more point, James O’Donnell caught fire producing a two under par back nine to secure his victory on seventeen. Rory also fought back and was one up playing eighteen. A great team victory for the boys who will face West Waterford or Cobh in the next round.
We held two Junior competitions over the Easter period with Luke Walsh and Donnchadh Callaghan taking the honours in the 18 Holes, while Will Browne and Jarlath Hurley succeeded in the 9 Holes.
Our Junior coaching continues next Saturday at 3pm and is open to everyone 6 years of age and older. Thanks to Niamh Reynolds, Liam Browne, Alan O’Donnell and Alan Thomas for hosting last week’s session. In addition to our 3 o’clock session we are taking our Pre Junior members onto the course at 4pm next Saturday for an hour to give them valuable course knowledge regarding course etiquette. Adult assistance is required. Please contact David in the Pro Shop at 058-44707 if you can give us one hour of your time to help the future golfers of our club.
Fred Daly practice continues next Friday at 5pm. In other news we offer sincerest congratulations to former junior member Stephen Slater who got married last Friday. And we wish former Junior Captain Colm O’ Hare the best of fortune on his upcoming wedding.
